Sitting in an internet cafe, in the city of Miahuatlan near Oaxaca, is a pleasant experience. The weather is very comfortable and life is multisensory. The following probably seems like an odd statement, but in Mexico, you cannot forget that you are surrounded by life - good and bad smells, interesting sights and constant sounds . Birds sing, church bells ring, dust blows, music plays, hammers ring, people laugh, vehicles rev up, and vendors slowly walk ...
Huatulco, Pacific Coast, Mexico ladyandtramp... area popular with Aorth American charters, but there are some still unspoilt beaches in the area. Took the famous "7 bay" boat tour the next day hoping to see some of these - I was told by the hotel it left at 11am so took a leisurely stroll there but then got misdirected by a hotel receptionist over a big hill, when it transpires I was right there - tempted to go back and give the pinche puta a piece of my mind but could be ***** in the end! Got there just in time, hot and ...
Huatulco, Pacific Coast, Mexico ccchrissie... of mind to bargain with an obnoxious taxi driver at that early hour and after I fitful night's sleep, but I didn't have a choice. After he tried to double our already negotiated price, I got angry and told him to let me out of the taxi. It was pitch black, and I had my heavy backpack, but I was able to stumble towards the sound of the ocean, and following the hotel's signs, came up on a big hill, climbed the hill, and saw it- the ocean. It ...
Zipolite, Oaxaca, Mexico dmwalsh... money - they are dressed in traditional gear and look very much like American Indians from Hollywood movies...or perhaps from real life. Jeez Milli. But everything is a movie! No Milli. Does life imitate art, or art imitate, ok I really will stop now. We have had most meals with guacomole, many soups come with bits of avocado in it, tonnes of black beans and corn chips in many shapes and sizes. Every place has a 'house chilli salsa' and they vary but all are fantastico! We have ...
Zipolite, Mexico shanemilli... to 100 % higher than on the Emerald Coast where we found prices higher than we expected but still not unreasonable). The dock area has guys out on the street trying to get you interested in using one their boats for fishing or sightseeing and snorkeling, again reminiscent of Lahaina. The fishing boats are expensive for nothing fancy, a panga-type (large row boat with ...
Barra de la Cruz, Mexico vlad... to find out it slows WAY down once the Mexican holliday and surf comp were over, and is a wonderful place to hang out. We opted to stay one more day as we have our first flat tire to fix (Troy's), and a few maintenance things to take care of, and then we should be hitting the road in the morning, I think. This place is pretty sweet! Tomorrow we will hopefully get to the Guatemalan Border, spend the night, and then on to Panajachel on Thursday. Cheers! Doug
Puerto Escondido, Mexico dstrp... be ablt o descend to 60 feet. Nata made fun of me for reading the whole book. I guess most people just skim it looking for answers. I just want to learn the stuff without drowning my butt off. I saw a huge manta ray yesterday. They hide in the sand with their sneaky eyes a-peepin. I'm still having trouble staying still in the water. I look like Scooby Doo running in place when he's trying to take off quickly. I realize I should stay horizontal but my body wants to get vertical. Just ...
Huatulco, Mexico kittenbumPuerto Escondido About 6 hours south from Oaxaca is a small town which is home to this best surfing in Mexico, and although we can´t surf but thats never bothered us before. Along the main beach there is what the locals call the "Mexican pipeline". Its where the breaking waves curl into cylinders allowing (if your good enough) to ride inside. It was time to find someone who could teach us, it was best to start with the kids classes. Instead we ran into a guy called pablo, a local ...
Puerto Escondido, Mexico mjcchelt... Puerto Angel, but unless your really like to surf, there's not much there. It's pretty tiny. We stayed at Mision de los Arcos, and it was really great. Center of town, clean, big room, nice balcony. Only problem was the beds were rock hard! We actually put our beach mattresses on top and slept on those every night. Food was overall fantastic- Oaxaca is a great place if you're a foodie, though next time I'd like to go to Oaxaca City for even more.
