Ciao, ciao, ciao .......we have just had a "piccolo vacanze" from Panicale for 2 days.......

In my quest for a genuine woven leather handbag (or three) my research had unearthed a 5th generation traditional leather weaver in the small town of Petritoli in Marche. Only issue was that Marche is much further across Italy , through the Sibillini mountain range ,almost to the other side on the Adriatic Sea.

Then we descend through the beautiful village of Montefortino, arriving finally at Amandola, the towering arc of the Sibillini Mountains a constant presence. We follow signs around the top of the town, finally arriving at the imposing Hotel Paradiso through impressive gates, and up a long driveway. The proprietor welcomes us with coffee ...

... this is where people go to get the latest from friends and share an opinion (or 5). We are met immediately by a group of men who know the Zippilis. After a quick rapid volley of Italian we hear "Oh, Cahleefornia!!!!", then we are greeted with handshakes and vibrant smiles. Also in the square is Novello Michetti, second cousin to Lisa's Mom. Smiles and handshakes again as Rita helps to translate. Last stop: the Zippili ...

... of the precious commodity that has been such a joy to have: the commodity of time. So, as I watch my children work together to build a sandcastle on a beach in Italy, I count Jenn and I the luckiest of parents because we have amazing children and the time to get to know them for the amazing people they are and will become in the future. That is until Jack picks up a stick and hits his sister.

We miss you all. We'll be home soon!
