Climbing in Siurana Part 1

Swiss and Matthieu and the gang gave me a ride to the town of Reus to catch a train back to Barcelona, where I would spend the weekend in a rented apartment for a reunion of the folks I had met in Nepal (and stayed with some of the previous weekend in Madrid). I was looking forward to seeing Pou whom I'd hung out with in Kathmandu my last couple days in Nepal. I was prepared for a long and hilarious weekend!

... a lot of effort in stopping pedestrians from stepping under tapes and around fences to carry on with their normal business for a while and then the fun starts. The Tronada is what it says it is. A prolonged blast of artificial thunder as numerous mortars launch explosive pyrotechnics into the air. The effect is impressive and you feel the explosions almost as much as hear them. Small children cry and grown ups wince and everybody claps and cheers when it's all over.

A long arm and a long day of Santa Tecla

The performace lasts for about 30 minutes and is notable as much for its setting and the lighting as for the symbolism of the story which involves lust, cruelty, botched murder attempts and wolves. Arms feature heavily towards the end, as you might hope.

... Petit. We reckoned we'd walked far enough, so standing in a queue didn't have much appeal but with and hour to go before the performance the idea of sitting outside a cafe drinking Vichy Catalan (other drinks are available) did.
Serrallonga, real name Joan Sala i Ferrer, was a seventeenth century Catalan bandit who has become almost legendary as the centuries have progressed and we watched groups of youngters in costume re-enact episodes from his life.
