Costa Adeje, Spain paulatluxury... the whole photogs mafia went for a lunch to our favourite chinese restaurant. Yep, I spent my Birthday in Tenerife, Canary Islands. And it was a really nice one. I really didn`t need anything else to be happy. But 2 nights later on something totally unexpected happened. It was right after formal night, which technically meant I felt super tired. The only thing I was dreaming of was showering and catching up with sleep. Suddenly Ronnie knocked on my door ...
Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain and Canary Islands bogna... thoughts on Tenerife - it has great weather and it's an easy life - but it has a retirement home feel, especially where we were staying. There isn't much Spanish culture here - the most culture is that 'created' by the British tourists and the businesses that cater to them. Maybe the other islands would be a little more interesting. Santa Cruz was interesting but it's weather isn't as good as in the south.:-), Goodbye Club Tenerife - Diamantes II condo - back to hotel living..
Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain and Canary Islands pathfinder35... car trips time). There were no trails or hikes you could take at the top. After the mountain topping cable car ride, we travelled to another viewpoint where there are volcanic rock formations sticking out of the ground called 'pipes'. The soil around them had eroded away, leaving the pipes sticking up from the surrounding landscape. Again, great views. One other stop was at the last volcano to erupt on the island in 1909. The lava flows were ...
Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain and Canary Islands pathfinder35... relaxing. For lunch, we went to the 'Penny Farthing' restaurant. Not very Spanish but very British. The hamburgers ($4E) were very good as well as the pint of beer ($1.5E). All of the other patrons were watching some football (ie. soccer) game on the telly. For the afternoon, Andy and I just read while lounging on the balcony at the condo. John and Dale walked up the cliff and had a wonderful view of the coast. For ...
Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain and Canary Islands pathfinder35... it was only halk cooked) at a cafe. You win some, you lose some. We watched some surfers along the Los Americanos beach. They are always amazing to watch (and the ocean feels so cold!). The wetsuits must help. For dinner, John and Dale made a wonderful coconut shrimp dinner with vegetables and rice. The shrimp was freash from the supermarket. The 2 bottles of wine and sitting ...
Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain and Canary Islands pathfinder35... based in Spain. Our flight only cost 100E and it's a 3 hr flight south of Madrid. I realized why it was cheap once onbaord as you had to pay for even coffee or pop. And the plane was a MD-80 - one of those old planes that use to fly between Regina and Toronto back in the 80's. It still had the cigarette ashtray on the armrest. But the flight was smooth and uneventful. Since Canary Islands is part of Spain, we didn't have to go thru customs at the airport. We ...
Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain and Canary Islands pathfinder35Sunday 11/01/09 The day's finally arrived; we left home by coach at 10:15 for the uneventful 3 ½ coach trip to Southampton docks. Once at the berth there was as expected the snaking queue of hundreds of people all with the same thought on their minds; lets get this over with quickly, and I must say I was pleasantly surprised, the process from joining the queue to opening the cabin door was just under 30 minutes, not bad at all. The cabin's fine with ...
Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain and Canary Islands easygeeze... view from the water for one last time. We returned back to Pearly Grey for the afternoon sun and enjoyed basking in the warmth by the pool. I had one last swim at Pearly Grey and enjoyed every last minute of sunshine. At 17:00, we joined our friends outside for happy hour, taking in the lovely sunset and company. We (including Karen and David from Staffordshire) then decided to go out for a lovely meal at "Casa Maria", just down the road. We had ...
Adeje, Canary Islands, Spain and Canary Islands hvbaskey... we went swimming. The water was very beautiful and it reminded me of my favorite Crayola crayon color: cerulean. Everyone except for the girls who didn't want to mess up their makeup and hair jumped into the water and swam for awhile. There was such a high salt content in the water that I barely had to tread water to stay afloat. The only thing that was bad about being so buoyant was that it was impossible to go very far under the water, which meant that we ...
