The beginning of our adventure

November 21,2009

Arrived LAX on time and had to find something to do from 3pm to 1020pm.yikes,everything at LAX isunder construction. Paid an outrageous amount for a BLT and 2 beers, welcome to airport food. actually not too bad. Met a really nice man on the plane who runs a bed and breakfast with his wife in Haines, AK. He scaled Mt McKinley as a cancer survivor, sounds like he has a wonderful family and used to live in New Zealand. He gave me lots of tips on what to see and do as far...

There were dozens of parrots and cockatoos waiting to be photographed, and fed, although that is discouraged.

The lovely parrots were ok but the cockatoos were aggressive and pushy, biting toes and scratching skin when they land on you.

Working life!

... day spent in Melbourne. I was then walking to work one Wednesday with my friend Jit and trying to explain to him how I’d woken up that morning and just knew everything was about to change - it was like things had been building up and decisions were about to be made for me and things were going to completely change. He sort of looked at me a little strangely as if I’d gone even further off my rocker and we continued on our walk.
The following morning however I was in the ...

A life with cooking

... The market, and more importantly, cooking had become a major part of my life. Something to look forward to after a hard day, not only for the reward of having something good to eat, but for the experience of cooking it myself. I had set up a little stereo in the kitchen and on a Sunday afternoon, I could think of nothing better than to throw on some CDs and get stuck into a new recipe. I was also gaining confidence in my abilities, inviting friends over and trying more ...

... the more amusing for us by 3 lads who met each other aboard the bus and one in particular who suffered from a bad case of short-man syndrome. On Wednesday we paid homage to F1 by attempting to go for a run around the race track in Albert Park, although we only made it about half way round before being turned back as they still hadn't finished clearing up from the ...

Ocean Road to Melbourne

... and had lunch at McDonald's. I have really avoided eating at American fast food places as much as possible, but I was curious about whether the food would taste the same as it does back home. So I ate a burger and fries there. The burger tasted basically the same, but the fries tasted a little different. They grow different types of potatoes here in Australia than we are used to in the states, and they do taste ...

Belated Happy New Year from Oz

... the breaking system on a jumbo jet. A good incentive to keep your distance if ever one was needed! - Swimming with a 15 strong pod of dolphins, the most beautiful and graceful creatures and an amazing experience. A parting thought: the Great Australian drive-through off licence - asking for trouble or a stroke of genius? Next we're off to explore the sights, sounds and sheep of New Zealand, country number 14.

We will let you nkow how it went when we get a chance, and also we hope to get some photos loaded on. We are now in Sydney, having finally tracked down somewhere to load our photos (although the site is taking ages to boot them up) and thought we should add the final bits to our stay with Kate and ...
