Sydney without the sun

... a stroll around the Royal Botanic gardens and took in the big sites like the Opera house and the harbour bridge. Looking back we were lucky we did it on Tuesday as it rained for pretty much the rest of the week we were there. Wednesday we went to Sydney aquarium in the morning, a very cool place with at least one of nearly every kind of water dwelling creature on display. After that we started walking towards the Sydney Observatory. As we were waiting at a ...

Sorry for the delay....

... and quitting a job, and the extreme hospitality of some guys I met while in Hawaii, I can truly say I'm having a fabulous time! So when I first got here I stayed with my dad's friend Nigel and his wife Di. They are absolutely lovely people and live in a gorgeous place called Church Point in the Northern Beaches. I had a very nice time with them for my first about 10 days....then I was off to the Gold Coast. While I was in London the summer before last I ...

Sydney: Hanging Out With Brad and Esth Down Under

... I had been in a dingy guesthouse in the narrow alleys of the crowded Javanese city. seeing real poverty and suffering and the beautiful temple of Borobudur. There were many moments at Camp David where I felt very out of place and this gave me a glimpse at the reverse culture shock I will likely feel when I return to the US after my travels through (mostly) the developing world. Checking Out the Beaches From Kiama to Bondi ...

Uni!

... them that I was doing really really hard school work while I did it! My other hard class is African resistrance literature. The tacher seems great. I am also taking Business, law and ethics, which I switched into from Austrian politics because, I will not lie, I wanted an easier class. I am also taking Australian cinema. It is almsot all Americans nad the easiest and most fun class at the uni. How easy a class is directly correlates to how many Americans are in that class.

So long, farewell...

... I spent the day running around trying to fit all my favorite Sydney things into one day. After closing my bank account, I walked to Coogee Beach, bought a Magnum ice cream bar, and then continued walking all the way to Bondi Beach. The Coogee-Bondi Coastal Walk is probably my favorite thing to do in this beautiful city. Then I hopped on a very slow bus to the city and went to Paddy's Market in Chinatown to buy an extra ...

Becoming a wine connoisseur

... lawn bowling club in the world is in NY - I'm gonna have to find it and get in on a pick up game when I get home! Whoa, a moment ago it was hailing! Crazy Sydney spring weather. It's now officially spring here, because according to Australia the season starts on September 1. Oh, and today is Father's Day. Oddly enough, Mother's Day is the same date here as in the US, but not Father's Day. Go figure. Last weekend I went on a proper date with my Korean "boyfriend" (and ...

Catching up on the past month of my life

... student from Asia. It was funny working there. Then, Rina and I took an extended weekend trip to Melbourne, while Kevin kept himself busy watching over my room and perfecting his Aussie accent in Sydney (Rina and Kevin weren't exactly getting along). When we went to Melbourne 4 years ago, we didn't have the greatest experience and left the city wondering what was so great about it. This time around, we had an awesome time and found a new appreciation for the ...

Easter in Sydney

... my week off by going to another lame party at uni. I got to play third wheel to Kristin and her new Aussie boyfriend Steve, whom she met through the crew team. But he's a really nice guy, so I approve. I don't see as much of Kristin anymore because she's quite busy with rowing, her numerous Landscape Architecture projects, and her boy. So I'm left alone in our apartment with our strange, anti-social flatmates. Just a little while ago I learned a ...
