DUBAI! Like Vegas, only WAY more expensive.
The cheapest hotel within 5 miles of the Dubai Airport? $550 a night! The minibar might as well be a safe. The airport terminal is like a gleeming, brilliantly lit movie set. Dubai is home of the world's best hotel, the Barq el Arab, the only 5 star hotel anywhere. Brunch is $150, plus drinks, even alchohol! I managed to crash ...
Dubai, Dubayy, United Arab Emirates austinairwavesA shift was noticed in the marketing strategy used by hotels in the Gulf region particularly in Dubai, with more and more hotels turning to the popular social networking sites to attract more guests.

This shows the huge potential these ...
Dubai, Dubai, United Arab Emirates dsektops... coupled with the shiny marbles flooring did not allow for a weary traveler wanting to stretch out on the floor for a little kip. Further taunting the weary traveler was a set of read metal and faux leather reclining seats originally designed no doubt for hell's own waiting room - such was the comfort that they offered. Not only did they not actually recline, but they were fixed rigidly in such an un ...
Dubai, United Arab Emirates snakey... of London, so I left them to go meet up with my friend James at Trafagular Sq. Met up with james not till around 4pm but it was nice. We both forgot how busy downtown london on sunday will be as the london marathon was going on. thousands of people on the streets near impossible to get around - sidewalks, trains and buses just filled with people. but we went out for some lunch, drinks, then met up later on to go for a drink with his brother then to ...
Dubai, United Arab Emirates easyrider1234... a golf course and a bunch of manmade lakes with huge plots of houses. It really reminded me of a lot of places in Naples Florida actually, very clean and elegant, and just screaming wealth. I also noticed that houses here are built with concrete and no brick/wood. I asked Chris if some of the houses had carpet (since I noticed the apartment floor was all tiled) and he mentioned that some actually do, but it's not common. I guess that wood floors ...
Dubai, United Arab Emirates tnowakow... The spice souk is very picturesque and not modernised but the gold souk is purpose built to contain dozens and dozens of small gold and silver sellers in several long rows. As we wandered through there we were inundated with hopeful sellers trying to get us into their shops. In fact we did go into 1 shop to look at something we'd seen and the door was hastily shut on us....too bad...we just turned around and left without really noticing anything after ...
Dubai, United Arab Emirates shellyn... We then took a taxý to the Mall of the Emirates, where we were compelled to do a spot of snow tubing. Thats right, after the hottest temp Ive experýenced, we walked into the coldest. That is totally Dubai, totally extravagant. -4 degrees ýt was. So we went snow tubing, mýný-luging and played in the snow. So weird. The mall here is also very dýfferent to the part of Dubaý Im in. Lots of short skirts and revealýng tops, and many more whýte ...
Dubai, United Arab Emirates tecki... t a nice expereince. Although you know that you have nothing illegal on you you start to worry anyway. Like what if someone hid something in your bag etc. They wouldn't care, it would be straight to prison for a long long time.

In the end we only stayed one night as our minds were set on getting home and starting to build our life again. Maybe we will come back to Dubai on holdiay in the future when we look respectable.
Dubai, United Arab Emirates freetimeGreetings Well - It was earlier today but we still slept into 9.30am. This time it was straight out of bed to the breakfast table and a cooked breakfast for Jackie. I had a Continental. We then went onto the roof and sunbathed and swam until 1.30pm as it was too hot to do much and we learned a little from yesterday. Still - we went to the Dubai Museum (3rd time lucky) by walking through the town in 38 degrees heat. We had now learned where we had to go ...
Dubai, United Arab Emirates warwicksoption... Not only is Arabic the main reason I'm here, but it was the first class I registered for, so it made no sense. Luckily, there was plenty of room and they put me right back in the class. After class I caught a taxi with my roommate over to that Ibn Battuta Mall. The odd name comes from a Berber Muslim man who was like the Muslim Marco Polo. He went everywhere from China, to Russia, to Morrocco to East Africa, which was quite a bit for the 1300's. The mall is set up in a really ...
