... I was too afraid to step off the boat even with my life jacket on. But my husband went on with it. The guide and my husband were in the water exploring for about 15 mins. Apparently the view inside the sea was not too glamorous b/c the day was a bit cloudy. Anyway, so later in the day we did our own snorkelling in the sea area by our water-bungalow. That evening we went to the bar and grill for dinner. The place is wonderful, with a balcony seat ...
Male, Kaafu Atoll, Maldives ivjtravelertale... to get me to try every type of fishing while we were down there. One of his family friends was an expert at net fishing so we went out with him. We set the net up (100 ft long) and 4 of us would run away and back in toward the net to scare the fish away. After coming back up to the net we had around 7 nice sized parrot fish. We also caught a sea turtle. He was hard to get out because he got himself tangled pretty well. We eventually got him out and I took him away from our ...
Male, Maldives krugball... and bit him severly, causing Ben to bleed and abort the dive. He was taken to the closest hospital where he got a few stitches before being able to return to the boat. He was told to stay out of the water for the rest of his vacation, but that didn't make him too happy, so he stayed out of the water for just a day before diving again with a home made 'contraption' consisting of water proof bandages and a surgical glove to keep the water out ...
Male, Maldives psykokristin... dive, safely ascending & getting picked up by the boat crew. We were not happy bunnies, but we forgave him in the end! That was really all we did in the Maldvies - had the ...
Male, Maldives adrian.gfc... at an impressionable age) waters that are 4000 Meters deep? I hesitantly hopped in hanging off the buoy after Andy checked for fish/sharks, and soon enough told Nicky that I now felt like a big flippin lure. I soon hopped out but am proud I can say I did it.! (baby steps) The crossing has also giving me a sincere appreciation for the skills that both Andy and Nicky have related to sailing whether it be the actual technical sailing, navigation, fishing, water quality ...
Arabian Sea, Maldives amerikiwi... felt a different kind of attitude towards women. Some of the local men wore wrap skirts that came down to their ankles with western-style casual shirts. They didn't have any underwear on (obvious from the back, the front had a double layer of cloth.) The ship threw a deck party, the first of the cruise, with a huge buffet, lots of tables outside on the pool deck, and the band playing songs from the 50's and 60's. We did the twist but didn't win any contest, like the last ...
Male, Maldives cynjohn... have missed getting this to you on the 28th, but we were all thinking about you both. That was a special time 6 years ago. Today, our first true day, it is pouring!!! A little like the Cook Islands. We are actually a little happy about it as we have free Internet access, the boys are watching Pirates of the Caribbean (they have been waiting all trip to see) on our flat screen tv in our room. Ellie went to the Kid club this morning as ...
Rangali Island, Maldives mitchemi... someone says he does not have to go. It's a dilemna not knowing whether to push him beyond this point of fear so that he might actually come to like school or whether it is so deep rooted that it's not worth the fight and trauma. School is so short - afer Ramazan they have exams and then that's it for two months. The cold virus is the typical 4 days of school and lots of germs kind of thing. Everyone in Male seems to be coughing. The added stress of adjusting to ...
Male, Maldives henderson... a new experience to be on an island without streets (for two weeks I did not wear shoes) and cars, it was so quiet and peaceful. And we were lucky - even though we went in May and the rainy season starts in May, it was raining only once (on the day we left). It was a great trip with Florian (we have been to Sicily before and in San Francisco after that trip) and I hope that other trips will follow...
Embudu Village, Maldives tilman... entering the dive boat and visit our first dive spot Kuda Giri. We can't wait to jump into the light blue water. Sunrays are dancing over colourful coral reefs and playful fish - the world down there is a pure wonder. Nadia and I dive around the place just by ourselves, which makes it a very relaxing dive. Thousands of yellow surgeon fishes are watching us like we ...
