Never have I ever

... I am sitting with a 12 year old girl who was sexually trafficked by a 65 year old man. I only learned the details of the case through the girl the night before. So we were sitting there and I was not sure what to expect but soon the guy who was accused is escorted by police into the same court room and he was seated just two rows in front of the girl. It was so surreal. There was also another girl who is 16 and pressing charges ...

A night I don't even believe

... This is not the bar hopping I have been doing in the U.S. This is going to the bars to talk to the women where they work. To introduce them to Buklod or to stay in touch with the current members. For instance last night I met a member who went from being a GRO to a waitress because Buklod helped her. So here I am with my counterpart at Buklod and a group of about 6 college kids who are pretty well off and have not experienced this before. I should really ...

... Then he got fresh and clean water from bamboo. It was really clean water. We saw wild boar footprints. Then he showed us how to make a spoon and fork with bamboo. He said you can eat with the fork and spoon and then you have a back scratcher and toothpick. Then he made a long table and a rice cooker and cups. He made a spoon and cup for us kids each. I had lots of itch bites in the jungle

Then we went back ...

Childhood revisited

... to be a part of.
As well as getting used to the transportation and market, we were able to get used to working with kids. We did tutoring after school in our local barangay. As well as activities at the orphanage. We even had a huge kids camp which was a lot of fun. We also had to train the staff at the orphanage in order to try out staff training. This was a little more anxiety provoking. However, we did it and made it through. We also did a ...

... of 261 RM ($90 CDN) including the extra fees for baggage and some chicken sandwiches on the flight. I am not sure how Air Asia stays in business but I sure appreciate that they are around. Although the flight boarded on time, we ended up leaving 30 minutes late because some passengers that checked their bags but did not board the plane and then another man that left his laptop at the security check thinking they would put it in the carry-on ...

... and Baker. He told me that if I ever needed a place to stay in the Philippines, he would put Kimberly and me up in their university hostel for the night and cover our room and board. Perhaps I could teach a course there for him sometime, we discussed. He gave me a gift...some coffee grown by the university presented in a burlap bag. I gave him a CD of contemporary Christian music. The rest of the day we spent driving back to ...

spirits were calling

... and 10 years on we wanted to have a look. It's the reason the Americans left - the people were clearly peed off, they had set up everything they could want, brothels bars the lot and now there were only sad Euro tourists (gut city) to take a very sad and quite sick advantage of it. I'm sure when there was more money around it wasn't as desperate or seedy. We how ever had a great but strange experience. We arrived just before the wet season ...
