This morning, we started out at the Las Cruces Veterans Memorial Park for a Wreath Laying. This is a beautiful park. My cousin, Russell Platt's name is on the wall - he was killed in Vietnam, and was living in Las Cruces when he was deployed. During the ceremonies, the weather turned ugly again - looks like another rainy day. It rained off and on, but not too hard. During the day, 'New York' told me that my tail light was out - I had brake lights, but no tail light. And several road guards pu...

Thank you to our veterans!
We are camping for free with full hookups, behind the Chamber of Commerce building. Bill was able to connect to wi-fi with his antenna. This is a great free camping place. We walked down to the City Lake and around it, about a mile, that is a good ...

We then drove towards Dallas TX and make it to Odessa TX to find our 2nd Letterbox at Comanche Park in Odessa. We drove to Midland had dinner and stayed in our first Walmart parking lot.
Midland, Texas, United States cainrvtripWe took it easy today and caught our breath around the pool. Tonight we went to a Baseball game (the Midland Rockhounds - assisted by Rocky their mascot - beat the Wichita Wranglers) - it was great to see a game live and to soak up the atmosphere. We followed up this with a trip (in Jane's convertible) to a drive in movie where we saw Underdog. great movie - pity about the mosquitos !!!
Midland, Texas, United States athboybrowns... which was well used until the rain came. We love the rain over here as it doesn't last too long and keeps the temperature down to a manageable 30 - 35 degrees C. Despite the fact that the 10 year drought has now officially ended I get the feeeling sometimes that (as in Ireland) the locals have had enough of the rain. Met some of Kevin's rugby teammates - Thurs is a training night but there seemed to be a number of MadDogs hanging out around THE bar during training !!
Midland, Texas, United States athboybrowns... pool (including a diving board and slide) which the kids loved and Paul's den - which the big boys really loved. I was introduced to the game of Shuffleboard - which I managed to lose every time (thankfully there was no money involved) and Texas Hold'em which had money involved and which I lost as well.
Midland, Texas, United States athboybrownsThe sun shone again on Day Two - in fact I'm only going to comment on extreme weather from here on. I met some of Kevin's friends at the Petroleum Club for coffee this morning. They were all very excited by Padraig Harrington's win !! Afterwards we called into his office and met everyone there. Carrie, Debbie and the kids explored the first part of the local Mall - one of them. Great bargains to be ...
Midland, Texas, United States athboybrownsDay One was a lazy one. After a good nights sleep we lazed around and explored our new surroundings. Tennis in the morning (on their private court) was followed by Swimming in Kevin and Carrie's private pool - at least they were private today as there was nobody else around. The weather was hot but not too hot - and ...
Midland, Texas, United States athboybrownsAmerican Eagle flies a large number of Internal US Flights using a 45-seater jet - crewed by just one cabin hostess (oh and two pilots of course). These planes (while perfectly safe) do not instill confidence in tired passengers - especially when the air hostess asked Debbie ( in the case of an emergency) would she be willing to hold the passengers back while the hostess opened the emergency exits ...
