... Bunkhouses ist recht muehsam, das naechstgelegene kann ueber einen steilen, 4 Meilen langen Pfad erreicht werden. Zur Erie Mine gibt es heute keinen Pfad mehr, da waere Kraxelei und ein Fuehrer angesagt. Die Natur hier ist spektakulaer, alles ist umgeben von Gletschern, tausenden von Metern hohen Eisfaellen und Gipfeln mit ewigem Eis und Schnee. Day 20
... even if it was a small black bear! She is getting pretty frail.
She couldn't hear us and she kept trotting farther and farther ahead! I started yelling and so did Warren. She kept going. Finally she stopped and looked around and saw us and came back. Phew!!
It wasn’t much of a wild life day. I saw a gray jay, but we cut our bird watching walk short because of the ravenous mosquitoes!

Mining Town
... ice cream and went to the gift shop. I got some things and then we boarded the shuttle again.
The shuttle man found a spike in the road from the old railroad. We drove down to Valdez (on the ride we saw a black bear) and got some pizza at 10:30 pm or 2 o'clock in the morning in NY. Road trip
... to the town of McCarthy. The road is paved for the first 33 miles and graded gravel for the last 60 miles.
We were intrigued by everything we had read and heard about the McCarthy road and had chosen to travel it on this trip. Day at the Alaska State Fair
We didn't connect with the people from ND before we left this morning. I did talk to another couple in their travel group that knew him as "Big John." At least we can say we saw another ND license plate in Alaska.
Our 45-minute drive from Anchorage to Palmer was very scenic. I can't believe how much the leaves have turned here. We were noticing the change the last week down on the Kenai Peninsula but up here it's more dramatic. I think it's the aspen trees that ...
