... on with the boring stuff, like washing the kids and clothes.
We have crossed Europe, shedding socks as we go. I know we left a pair in northern Poland, and one on a beach in Latvia. I'm pretty sure we lost two more in Tallinn. Now, in Lithuania, I discovered I have gained a pair of Nick's boxers, which somehow failed to fly home ...
Tomek suggested I took the route through Alytus to avoid traffic. This seemed sensible, looking at the map. There was a similarly large road running up towards Mariampole on the Polish map I was using. We stopped just before the Lithuanian border for coffee and ice-cream, only to discover the big red road I was supposed to follow did not exist on the Lithuanian map I was about to start using. A lorry driver sensed my confusion and we discussed the problem of the disappearing A ...
Praniūnai, Lithuania rachelkw... All I could think was that this was so similar to the castle in Kamyanets-Podilsky, so we accepted our fate, fighting for space with locals and got on with it. Realistically, to us it was pretty ******, but we had to see this with our own eyes !!! Forty minutes later, we were out of there. Back on the road, we headed out to see Stalin World, but that's another story on its ...
Kaunas, Lithuania uncle_davros... by someone, and it seemed that life in a big city where no one knew anything about her was what she needed. She had been in the city for a few months only, since she had finished her studies and graduated. Every once in a while both of us checked the clock, for the car was not arriving yet, but the wait wasn't that embarrassing any more. At least not to me. Maybe neither to her. And even the other girl showed occasional hints of understanding what the two of us were talking about ...

Kaunas, Lithuania meenzer... having a shower i then decide to nip out to the internet cafe a couple of doors down. its only 9.00 but i'm locked in! so the old lady and a bloke who it later turns out is her lodger (either that or her middle aged toyboy!) and i have a sign language conversation about when i'll be back - eventually we all understand 10.00. get back to the flat and they've all gone to bed but the floor boards and bed are the squeakiest you've ever heard so i'm creeping ...
Kaunas, Lithuania eolr... read "Thankyou Lithuanians for this Hill of Crosses which testifies to the nations of Europe and to the whole world the faith of the people of this land". We drove through the drizzle a little longer till we found a forest to turn into and settle for the night. We noticed quite few mozzies, but I guess it's their forest. We could also hear the cuckoo birds and woodpeckers but could not see them, it was peaceful and enjoyable.
Krysiu Kalnas, Lithuania jennykelly... the old castle. The castle was part of the defences I have already seen against the Teutonic Knights. The river nearby had done most of the damage to the ruins. A roof has been added but nothing more. I walked around this and then down to see where the rivers Neris, that I know from Vilnius and Nemunas, from further south, meet. I continued up the river Nemunas and back through different streets. Nearly lunch time. I stopped at a shop to ...
