... and I'm sure nobody wants to read about. Another was the fact that I wanted to focus more on highlights rather than day to day details as I've done in the past. Overall, I think the gist of the trip was still captured
Before I ever arrived in India I can remember hearing from more than a few people that I would either love or hate India - there is no middle ground they said. Having spent so much time there now it is easy to see why people say that. There is an awful lot ...
... wrapped in blankets and dirty rags and still in slumber. A muslim guy came over to tell me that it would be wise not to leave the platform until the sun came up and that it was a very dangerous place at night. He also told me to enjoy the colours of India. I asked about a taxi to which he replied there was none anywhere near this town nor a bus service. I was located in central bum **** whoop whoopville. The ...
Kolkata (Calcutta), West Bengal, India inoursuitcase... I compare myself with the Masters so much. What I compare myself to most is those times when I have seen and experienced life with the energy and luminosity of the Soul, when everything was one, living, beautiful and flowing whole, when everything was flowing in and out of that One life in an ever-blossoming revelation. When I am away from that, I am miserable. I also see very clearly everything I have done to sabotage myself. I am trying to get back to it, without ...
Kolkata (Calcutta), West Bengal, India globalgramma... toward rote is lessening. In saying the 108 Names, I find myself authentically honoring, offering myself to, and calling upon, the aspects of Divinity that Baba Lokenath embodied in human form and which he still makes available in spirit to anyone who seeks His support. It is not that Baba Lokenath is the only master to embody those Divine dimensions and make them available to humanity but he is the one who has touched my life in the most significant and direct way. For ...
Kolkata (Calcutta), West Bengal, India globalgramma... just to catch a few hours sleep. Fortunately, we decided to pressed on and got a 2 hour flight to Kolkata. The Delhi airport was filled with uniformed military boarding 2 flights bound for Mumbai....looking out over the waiting area was surreal....just an ocean of green uniforms all staring at one tv. There is no sense of what was happening in Mumbai here in Kolkata...except a few headlines. We arrived at 9:30 AM Sat and were ...
Kolkata (Calcutta), West Bengal, India chelah... what they can and sell them back to the idol makers for the next statues. Supposedly the rest of it deteriorates and does not pollute. I doubt this very seriously - and, since there is a new festival with immersed statues every month (if not every week) there must be accumulations of this debris. Maybe that is not the worst thing in that river! Idon't really want to talk about that.
Kolkata (Calcutta), West Bengal, India nomadgal... the worst in India. It took an hour in light traffic but should have taken 15 mins. He asked about 10 people which way to go and still couldn't find the place. The Victoria Memorial is a huge, impressive building which we will try and see more of on our return - very busy due to a festival called Puja that meant lots of Indian tourists were out and about too. So we only got to see the grounds and outside of the building.
Kolkata (Calcutta), West Bengal, India michelle_austyn... angry and tired to try, so I inevitably ended up at the back of the cue. Finally, after an hour and a half in line, for what reason I don't know, an office worker ushered me into the office ahead of about 15 other people and I obtained my refund. Now this left me in the dead of night with no hotel, which basically meant that I was going to have to pay more money because every hotel that only charges one hundred and fifty rupees for a room will ...
Kolkata (Calcutta), India cleatuslives... the places I have visited. My taxi made a u-turn and drove along a covered walkway filled with hawkers and stores right up to the heavily guarded entrance to "The Grand". The guards gave the car and us a brief inspection and then waved us through. The staff greeted us traditionally with hands together at their chest and a small head bow as I paid the cab and entered the hotel. The serenity and quiet was almost palpable as I made ...
