TripAdvisor Reviews Mayourka Hotel Cairo
Travel Blogs from Cairo
Luke and I are nearing the end of our Egypt adventures, with a little over 24 hours left before heading south to Tanzania. We have spent the past two days exploring the desert, which proved to be much more interesting than it sounds. We flew from Luxor to Cairo on 1/14 and from there headed to the Bahariya Oasis, 5 hours west of Cairo in the middle of the Sahara Desert. Since the beginning of Egypt’s history, the river has been the source of the country’s livelihood with it’s predictability making farming less strenuous and travel easy. Now, it serves the same purpose, facilitating travel among ...
... up on to see Abu Simbil. This is an incredible temple that Pharoh Ramses II had built with 4 giant statues of himself on the front and then he built a smaller tone for his favorite wife Nefertari beside (yes he thought highly of himself). Inside are amazing carvings on every wall etched into the stone. What makes visiting this site even more awe-striking is that the entire two temples were moved in the 60's as a dam was being built on the Nile to create lake Nasser and the ...
