      ... was busy. Sat on a bench out in the street to have our rolls. It was under the High Line which is an old elevated train line which has been turned into an open urban green space. The saving of spaces like this and Grand Central Terminal has been the result of citizens campaigning, not forward thinking town planners. The High Line was very popular with lots of people strolling along. In parts you could see one of the old tracks with trees growing up between the sleepers. We walked ...

      ... the subway to Central Park. Here we hired 2 little carriages pulled by men on bikes to take us to many different famous sights. Including, the fountain from the beginning of Friends, places in Elf and things from Madagascar and Sex in the City. It was fascinating to see daily life in new york.       ... lines that you could take to get out here (shy by one stop, in fact).

      Not that either line gets you all that close ... it's a good 20 minute hike from either one, more if it's hot weather (which it was back in '88 ... this time it was merely very warm) through - you guessed it - Fort Tryon Park - which is actually quite pleasant and nature-y, not at all what you expect on Manhattan ...
