    Best Place Ever

This was probably one of the best experiences I have ever had at a hostel. Firstly, the actual placeis gorgeous - built on a rocky outcrop on Lake Malawi with magnificent views. The accomodation itself is fabulous, the bathrooms are stunning and clean and the eco-toilet is unique. It was so well maintained that it didn't smell or present any kind of problems at all. The showers are huge and look out over the lake. The whole atmosphere is fun and lively, with different food specials and activities taking place every day. we met some wonderful people on our trip there, and we were just facilitated in having as much fun as possible. Gary, the South African owner, found out we were from Johannesburg and instantly upgraded us from camping to a stunning double room with Lake view - for the same price as camping. All in all, a fabulous experience and I can't wait to go back.

    Great Spot

In another life, Mayoka Village could very easily have been a hippy commune. The thatched huts cling precariously to the side of a steep mountain and everyone seemed to know everyone else. The staff were extremely friendly and a litter of puppies was running wild biting every foot in sight. There was a notice board packed with activities, and free tea was offered at 4pm every afternoon. It was the perfect place to drop anchor for a few days.

Kaya Mawa in the local Tonga dialect is translated into "maybe tomorrow"...this is what I thought a couple of times during my stay in Malawi... I dedicate a part of my heart to...MALAWI! What a beautiful piece of earth! Maybe my favorite country so far! It's geography is sculptured by Africa's Great Rift Valley characterized by mountains, lush …

    Journey to Malawi

We started our journey to Malawi with a flight down to Mbeya, Southern Tanzania. We had originally planned to bus it down to Mbeya but with the flight only costing £40 and taking 10 hours less we went with the comfortable option. We landed in mbeya at about 7.30 and got a free shuttle bus to the bus station. From here we got on a two and a …

On arrival in Dar es Salaam, capital city of Tanzania, we headed for a hostel trudging along in the downpours of rain, which had been falling since we left Zanzibar. Our plan was to spend a couple of days exploring Dar and then take an overnight train to Mbeya and from there catch a bus to the Malawi border. We spent the afternoon 'drying off' and …

    Day 1: November 20, 2013

That day we decided to move on a little bit and proceed to the most famous bay at the Lake Malawi - Nkhata Bay. Although it may sound easy because the distance between Chitimba and Nkhata Bay isn't so big, it took us almost 8 hours to get there. It's obvious that the Malawian infrastructure isn't the best and …

    The Lake

So we finally left Tanzania and headed to the lake via Mzuzu. The lake is stunning and it was often hard to think it was actually a lake rather than the ocean. Mayoke village was a beautiful spot next to the lake (although there wasn't really a beach) and was a great place to spend a few days.

The staff and owners of the place were really …
