... they were getting dangerous, so that left me with one wet pair of running shoes for the storm ( I forgot my flip flops on the dock in Catskill). Our new-found friends rescued us Saturday night with an invitation to a wonderful dinner on their boat, and they had turned on their heater- nice ! I guess our heater should have made the cut after all. Marty got the old compressor and icebox out somehow and installed the new ones in the same day, and ...

... would have been better than the sound of popping balloons…

We’ve been hanging out with Sylwia and Luke a fair bit. They came and met us in Brooklyn for brunch and then we headed to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. It was so hot that of course we had to swing past Ample Hills for an ice cream. Again, such a struggle to make it through the end. I probably shouldn’t go in the middle of the day, but I did finish it! I went to the Botanic Garden, just to find out it was pretty enough and that I should do it later that day when I had some more time.

... foreign dignitaries. The rain began falling as Andrew and I hiked back to the car. The rain got heavier and heavier as did the traffic and construction and this road was completely new to me. This is everything that irritates me while driving hitting at once. I got a big head ache so after crossing the border into the New Jersey suburbs, we stopped for a late dinner and a rest. It was just the medicine I needed. Jerseyites seem to simply tolerate each other. The social temperature ...

          Efficient & boring

A travel blog entry by dshapusa on Aug 02, 2010

In a previous lifetime, I visited this brewery and they made beer, glorious full bodied beer.

Recently, they were purchased by SAB Miller and everything is sanitized and boring. Their factory (note I said factory, not brewery) is a collection of stainless steel pipes, there is not even the smell of beer. They are very proud of the fact that only 23 men actually operate the machines instead of the hundreds previously. Yes, in the ...
