... of Hahei nor witnessed bubbling mud pools or steaming vents allover Rotorua.

Once pink and with terraces drew early tourists from all over the world , eager to see the spectacular wonders, and increasingly to bathe in the wild thermal area. Many of them undertaking a journey of over 6 weeks plus, only to enter the country. It even didn't take the indigenous people Te Arawa long, to join ...
Rotorua, Bay of Plenty, New Zealand bindannmalweg... house with a few kiwis in there - they are noctunal birds so it is dark but we saw 2 of them and they are much bigger than we had imagined.

We got a quick bite in Subway and went to the gondola which took us up to the luge tracks. The view over Rotorua was gorgeous. We got 3 luge rides so first you have to do the scenic track. A luge is like a go kart but it is plastic and doesn't have an engine - you go down a steep track so gravity moves it. Ror ...
Rotorua, North Island, New Zealand sharor... muscle mountain of a driver and guide. After saying hello to us in 72 different languages we arrived at the Maori centre.

We waited outside the gates to the traditional village in the pitch black surrounded by wood carving of scary faces. All of a sudden the Maori warriors appeared sporting traditional spears and war clothes, screaming and dancing at our "tribe leaders". At this point Niamh spotted quite ...
Rotorua, North Island, New Zealand niamh_keith... of a platform and aim to land with our bottom in our tube, the right way up in the water - sound scary, well it was. OK so we all passed and survived the test so now it was into the cave. Our guide was rather scary and was taking no messing so off we went with about 10 in our group, following one after the other. At 1st we were allowed out headlamps on but at points we had to go blind and navigate our way around in pitch black, it was kind of fun but did lead to a ...
Rotorua, North Island, New Zealand dlz... to accompany you. You have to take their word on the claim that they have the Southern Hemisphere's only hot water waterfall, as you can't get anywhere near it to test it for yourself. I found the mud bath here slightly disappointing however. I had imagined it would be thick mud. Instead I found myself climbing into a bath of dirty-looking water. Apparently there is a bit of sediment in the bottom which you can dig up and smear over yourself. I pondered as to when the ...
Rotorua, North Island, New Zealand pricklyleaf... to natural hotsprings river and relaxed.... looking at the unbelievable stars! I have never seen so many stars in my life This morning we travelled farther south to the town of Taupo, NZ where we will camp tonight. I have uploaded a few more pictures and will continue to do so when I get time. We do a lot of camping and activities that are not near cities so it is difficult for me to update regularly... but will do my best!! Love you and miss you all!!!!! Andrea.
Rotorua, North Island, New Zealand speckles... The kids did the fake parachuting, Russ and Yana went on the jet sprint boat, then Russ, Pete and I did the giant "swoop" swing. Excellent! They headed off to do the zorb but we went to do some shopping (gotta keep those wine stocks up), grabbed a burger and went back to the hot pool where we regrouped. Not quite as tranquil with kids leaping around the pool. Tried to go back to the pubs we liked but lots of them were closed. Did find one, and then had ...
Rotorua, North Island, New Zealand russdi... at least 4 inches of clearance around the outside edges of the basket(s). Soak the sacks and white cloth in a bucket of cold water. Crumple sheets of newspaper one at a time and put them in the hole, save one double piece and roll it up like a wick. Put it in the hole near one edge (you will need this to light the paper after you have put in the the wood and rocks). Put the kindling in, then start building a pyre by putting the bigger wood on. After the wood reaches ground level ...
Rotorua, North Island, New Zealand happysheep...
Rotorua, North Island, New Zealand schwate... south.

Our first stop was going to be the Waitomo glow worm caves which are about 5 hours south of Auckland.

I visited the caves last time I was here, and I really liked them. It's not the most dynamic or thrilling tourist attraction in the world, but I had a good time and remember it fondly, so I convinced Katie that it was worth seeing.
<br ...
