... two loads, we decided to eat at their restaurant. That's right we're trailer trash again. However, the food was great. I had my spaetzel with schnitzel and a salad, Guenther had a schnitzel with potatoes and salad. They also had Guenther and Jane size coffees. They didn't mind us sitting there while our laundry was going. So we played cards and drank coffee.

Day 284 2 hrs 5 kms I follow the trail which cuts through a cow pasture, where a portly bovine dares stands in my way a la Lord of the Rings :"You shall not pass!" ... is far from over, but maybe I need to take a break from it for a while, so I can come back really excited about every discovery around the bend once again. I hesitate... think for a bit. Finally make my decision. I'm taking the Via Claudia back to Italy. I wave goodbye to Landeck...peer down the eastern valley towards Innsbruck, giving a wistfull farewell to the road not taken, and begin my trek up the ...

... reach my destination as quickly as possible: Innsbruck, as from there I can turn south to Italy once again. I know what this means: for the first time, my hike through the Alps is starting to feel like a routine. It's not really a challenge any more. I've dealt with cold, slugs, rain, climbs, traffic, shortage of food, getting lost--and now I feel I can handle pretty much anything that'll come my way. It's all starting to feel a bit too easy. I'm a little ...
