Travel Blogs from Moscow
This morning we rose at 7am feeling quite awake even though our English body clocks were telling us it was 4 am.
Buddy the elf turned up 20 minutes late which at the moment seems to be our lot. All the other couples departed with their buddies at exactly 10 am.
We set off, just Heidi, me and our buddy, on the metro heading towards …
Heather, Linda and Jim wanted to ensure we left so escorted us to the airport, we were anxious and excited about the prospect of 6 months of traveling. Add was mainly concerned about being forced to drink copious amounts of vodka, on the train by friendly Russians. I was tearful about leaving my family and the security of England.
Rather than write a blog, this summer I'll just post photos that hopefully paint a picture of our destinations. So far we've had a great time together on our adventure!
We arrived at the Moscow Railway Station in St.Petersburg at around 9.00pm after dragging our cases for half a mile over the snow and ice. Too short a trip to get a taxi but taxing it was. Buildings in St. Petersburg are a bit anonymous and the railway station was no exception. We knew that we were very near to it but it wasn't so obvious. We …
Arriving in Moscow, Russia was very strange, especially after the comforts of England!! Very little English is spoken and our Russian is non-existent, so interesting!! Moscow is a huge city (population of 11 million) which caters for the very rich....lots of designer shops, posh Russian restaurants and hotels (Ritz, Savoy etc)....not the ideal …

Historical Traveler Reviews Maxima Zarya Moscow
I travel to Moscow once in a couple of month, and i can assure you that this is a good place to stay. I stayed at Zarya for a couple of days during my business trip last week. Rooms are nice and clean, stuff is friendly and heplful and it's worth the money you pay for it. It's deffinately underrated by some other reviews.
Well - where should I start? I stayed at this hotel which was booked through a Russian tour. When I got there & met some of the others, we were shown to our rooms. Some of the rooms we luxurious, with giant bathrooms, massives beds & even private lounges. They had been recently renovated, although many of the other rooms were just mediocre - a bit old, but still tidy, & with all features working.
Good Value, but location is not great.
Firstly, be careful when you are looking for this place. We were tired after a train journey, and some of the maps on the web show the location of the sister hotel. We stayed here for a week during our trip to Russia. It was much cheaper than most accommodation in Russia, and the room was clean, spacious and comfortable.
Our main gripe was with the location of the hotel. It is about 10 minutes walk from the nearest tube station, which is still a fair bit from the centre of town.
The staff were helpful. The breakfast buffet was passable.
Considering some of the other place with which we got stung in Russia, this wasn't bad.
This is a bog standard 3-star Russian hotel, which would be 1-star in much of the rest of the world. We ended up here as it was booked by the same people who booked our train tickets. There was nothing especially wrong with it out of the ordinary, but it is located way too far from the central tourist sites. It's not worth the commute to stay at this place.
Good job on renovation
The renovation is stilll in progress.
Rooms are above the average, food is great, front desk person is very helpful, knows everything, just do not speak English. Everything is new and shiny.
A little bit far from center. Ten minutes to nearest Metro station and 20-25 min ride.
Nice place to stay!
It was my second visit to Moscow and i can say i am quite satisfied with my accomodation in Maxima Zarya hotel. Michael on the Reception was very helpful. Good luck!
