... 100 miners were getting the sulfur out of the crater. They would carry baskets with ca 70 kg of sulfur up the crater on their shoulders. The worst was that on the way up they would have to shove their way through the masses of tourists. At the bottom of the crater we could watch the magic blue fire and see the miners at work. Our guide would also work in the crater after our tour was over. He was a widower with one ...

We started the day with a two hour walk through the local rice fields and rivers. One of the young men who works at Lesong guided us around. A travel blog entry by wanderingjay on Dec 13, 2014

So after our thrillingly long ferry ride to Bali, 30 minutes, we have arrived at our hotel for the next few nights, Kubuku Eco Lodge. I already know I'm coming back here at the some point. It's stunning! The rooms are beautiful with four poster beds and the shower.... By the Gods, I have an open air shower! It's so much fun! Although I want the sun, I'm hoping for a big storm so I can go and stand out there and have a shower in the rain because why the hell not!? The food ...

Holidays and travelling are two totally different things. We have already had a bit of backpacker travelling mode on 3rd class Indian Railways. However, we have to confess that was luxury compared to the journey from Ubud , Bali to Banyuwangi in Java.

We took a taxi from Ubud to Denpasar, and then a direct bus at Ubung main terminal straight to Java. The bus included the 20 minute ferry crossing.

    Having ...
