So after my time in Bagé, I caught a bus to Porto Alegre, the states capital.
I stayed in the hostel for two nights...

... is quite simple but involves lots of meat, cheese and beans and is very comforting and delicious), and the desire to actually see what the country has to offer. Due to the above mentioned factors I was much less social and touristy than I normally am on business trips so I can't even really say that I got a good feeling for the country. I would very much like to on another adventure though!
