Historical Traveler Reviews of Master Host Flagship Hotel Galveston

Dreary Flagship

from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband and I went to Galveston for the weekend for a quick get away. We have stayed at many of the hotels/condo's in Galveston and thought, what the heck...let's try the Flagship. This was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. The front desk personnel need a lesson or two in customer support and friendliness to start. We checked in and got to our room and I was just down right disgusted. The one chair in the room had cuts all in it and our non smoking room had cigarette burns all over the floor. The bathroom was just filthy. There was mildew all in the tub and I was scared to even walk on the floor bare footed. So I called to the front desk and requested a better room for my 150.00 a night stay and they moved me to one that was even worse.

Needless to say we have learned our lesson. You would think with the prices they charge they could do a little cleaning and renovating. To be completely honest that place wasn't good enough for my dog.

Rathole room with million dollar view

This would be one of the greatest hotels in Galveston if management would sink some of the profits back into the hotel. The rooms were greatly overpriced, and in very poor condition. The mattress was lumpy; carpet was old, stained and smelly. Wallpaper and paint was peeling off of the walls. The exorbitant amount that the hotel charged for the rooms is obviously not being used for upgrades or maintenance.

An investor needs to buy this property and remodel - location and view make this a great place, but the rooms, lobby and halls make it a dive..

Staff was OK - not great, but not bad.

A fallen flag

Only vacancy we could find as there was a convention in town. After check in found out why. Rooms are worth basically half what the rates are. They are in need of remodeling; even the lobby looks dated. Was a place to sleep but that is about all. Bathrooms and entire place look 30 yrs of age.

We came for the view and loved it

We wanted to be high up ,over the water for the view. The bed was good, all the staff were friendly,we liked the pool with music and were in walking of the beach. The hotel is past is prime,& needs improvements. But for the view,we would stay there.

The flagship is a stinker

Well, I think I had a typical Flagship experience.Had reservation and confirmation number but when I arrived nothing on file eventhough I had their printed copy that they mailed me!!! Got a terrible room on the dark side of hotel/ they moved me to a room with a broken bed and the staff all needed a customer service lesson or two./ gave up on the last two nites, checked out and into the CASA DEL MAR and enjoyed a fantastic condo with clean facilities and it was less expensive. The CASA DEL MAR has my vote from here on out. Galveston should be ashamed of the flagship and never let it be seen in any tourism promotions.

Nightmare

We went there for our 1 year anniversary and I was so unimpressed with the place, we actually packed up our bags and left before we spent the night. The deadbolt did not work, the smoke detector was beeping, the bed was damp, the paint was peeling off the walls, the bathroom looked dirty, and the balcony was anything, but peacefull. I don't even know if the place has a manager!

Ask for balcony when making a reservation

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed there in the Labor day weekend. Although we had made reservation one month prior the departure, they gave us a north side, no balcony room. Feel like a prison, dark and old! After arguing with the staff they agreed to give us a south side room, still no balcony. Asking them why they didn't give us a room with balcony, they said because we did NOT ask it when we made reservation, so they assume we DO NOT want it!(We don't know they have rooms without balcony until we arrived)

It is an old hotel, if no balcony, then it is even worse than the comfort inn across the street. The ice makers at 4th, 5th floors were not working during our stay. And, a moth fly out from the underneath of pillow gave my wife a shock! "It happens", the reply from the staff after I complain it to them.

What a Disaster

Arrived with my wife for a quiet weekend WITH a confirmed reservation only to find that they didn't have a room for me. No only was the "staff" (one person manning the desk with about 15 guests trying to get things accomplished) less than helpful, she was downright rude. Avoid like a plate of old seafood.

Love the View!

I stayed here in June 2002 for a long weekend. The place is awesome looking as you drive up to it & the view from the balcony was even better. You look right down at the ocean & can see fish swimming below you. The staff was very helpful. I had the change rooms 3 times because the a/c wasn't working. The people there were very patient & helped carry my things from room to room until I found a keeper. The room itself wasn't really worth the price tag they put on it (sort of run down) but I did not go home complaining at all. I had a great time.

Special To Me

from A TripAdvisor Member
The Flagship is the ONLY place I have found to stay that is OVER THE WATER. The hotel is old and that age is showing, but this is where I would stay when that choice is mine to make. I have had to good fortune of enjoy their hospitality a number of times. Stepping to the balcony whether to feed the gulls during the day or watch the surfers at night, is an experience so different from everything I have ever known. Simply watching the waves roll-in is spellbinding to me and the "roar" of the ocean holds me just as strongly. This continual ever present music never intrudes. I have yet to tire of it and miss is enormously every time I leave.

I have stayed at several other very fine hotels and while they are extremely well furnished with larger rooms, a staff that caters seeming at ease to each individual visitor, I will alway stay at the FLAGSHIP, if not my entire stay, at least a couple of nights.
