No safari?

From Dar Zach and I took a luxury bus to Arusha. It was nice! AC and we got the entire back seat (5 seats) to ourselves for most of the ride allowing us both to stretch out and sleep a good portion of the 10 1/2 hour ride. On the bus with us was a RCPV from Benin who was back in Africa traveling with her boyfriend. Since Benin is also in West Africa we bonded over our common Peace Corps experience. I convinced them to stay at the same place as us so we shared a taxi to the Masai Camp Ground, ...

Jambo jambo being in tanzania is a bit like ...

Jambo Jambo. Being in Tanzania is a bit like living in the world of Jimmy Saville - they say ev**ything twice say ev**ything twice!! We descended into the Ngorongoro crat** as promised in our 4x4 having raided the breakfast buffet in the rath** posh Ngorongoro lodge (making sandwiches for lunch much to the disgust of the head waitr who began watching us like a hawk). The weath** didn't look too promising at first - visibility was down to 20 metres and th**e was an omnipresent mist about which...

Working in Arusha for 9 months

I arrived into Tanzania on Thursday the 13th of March after being told 2 days before by my boss that I was required to go, I was currently working in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa at the time, so I quickly booked my flights and jumped on the plane. I was most pleased to get given the opportunity to go to work in Tanzania as I do love South Africa but it is time to get back to the real Africa again.

The reason why I came to Tanzania was to deal with some volunteers and make sure the n...

... said “fine.” And he said, “He’s awesome, a great guy you know, I rode with him for a long time and he’s the best there is.” said in a defiant tone as if we had in fact said something rude. I felt like I was in fifth grade again sending a friend over to spy for me and see if someone was saying mean things about me. We laughed a lot about that and then decided to head to bed. All in all it had been an amazing and long day.

"Ni na choka, ni na choka, ni na choka"

Good morning everyone! This entry is going to end up being really long because I have tons of things to talk about...

First, this week began the first week of day camp at GSC. To explain a little about day camp: it consists of over 200 kids at 3 different schools, ages 13-20, all voluntarily participating in a two week "camp" to learn all about a ton of different things. I'll explain more in depth, but basically it's what we Americans would see as a high school health class ...

... pass on the opposite side. Also, every few kilometres, there were speed bumps to control the speed, and what highway wouldn’t be complete without Billboards (huge signs and poles advertising local phone companies like Zain or Tigo and the obvious: Coca-Cola). We could still see that there was barren land that stretched left and right. Thomas told us that Arusha would be spreading out towards this direction in the coming years due to the growth ...

Mwingu night club, WIA, Mt. Meru waterfall hike

Good morning! There's currently a band and people singing in Swahil parading down the street (probably another wedding) so it's really loud in here. I only have a little while left on here but I'll try to update the past few days.
After leaving the Patisserie Thursday afternoon, Melinda, Janelle, Meghan, Lucy, Nick, Melody and I headed to Bamboo Cafe for dinner. They have a mix of African and Muzungu (American) food, so naturally most of us went for the Muzungu food. I had ...
