27 Gang Poppies 1 Kuta, Bali, Indonesia, 62361-758507
we made it! i can say that somewhat realistically too considering the lightning show we were witnessing from the window of our plane - while we were still in the air. smooth landing though, which i guess is what counts in the end. first time below the equator, and it did not disappoint. i think i saw the southern cross (i think). only downside is that i'm soooo close to australia, and it's soooo painful not being able to go. but i digress. no trouble entering the country, thanks for a cheap $...
Kuta, Bali, Indonesia domhnallWE packed up our stuff and after a final banana (actually pineapple has become my new favourite) pancake, we walked with our packs into town (well the main street). We were off to Kuta Bali on the Blue Water Express - double the cost for this fast boat but about 1/5 of the time. And it was fast, and bumpy (and a little bit wet). The trip was great. Tim got off on the 3x200Hp engines and we hooned, cutting through the swell creating huge sprays of water (I'm glad we weren't sitting on the top ...
Kuta, Indonesia dru_timWe arrived in Bali on November 18th. We stayed at the Masa Inn on Kuta Beach per Liehao and Lisa's recommendation. November 19th we went to the beach and were approached by many touts...sarongs, surf lessons, mangos, jewelry, massages...you name it. The sun was pretty strong for our winter white skin. We got sunburned two days in a row, especially after taking a two hour surf lesson the next day. Both of us were able to get up after a few tries, but it was definitely off and on. November 21st...
Kuta, Bali, Indonesia gringowithdrawlWe rented a scooter again and went out to Dreamland beach and Ulu Watu beach, and Ulu Watu temple. Ulu Watu beach was in a cave. Beautiful view... We met some people from Australia in an internet cafe on Poppies 1 while we were searching for a place to stay in Sydney. They were telling us which areas to stay in Sydney, and later told Kristi that we could stay at their house near Sydney if we wanted. After we thought about it, we decided to accept the offer, but then couldn't find their hotel....
Kuta, Bali, Indonesia gringowithdrawl... guns. I looked at them and thought to myself who on earth would be tempted to buy any of them while relaxing on a stunning beach in Bali? A while later and Disco entered into negotiations with one of the guys for a set. He wasn’t even sure he wanted one but they were stunningly well crafted and cheap. In the end we decided to go halves on the set and got them for a good price. Meanwhile all the other vendors on the beach had seen we were obviously newly arrived and had ...
Kuta, Bali, Indonesia ciaradoonerush... day off. Besides, we were going to be leaving for our trip to Uluwatu soon enough. Traffic delayed us getting out of town. Festivities ensued as today was Kuningan, another holiday symbolizing the couple days after Nyepi day or something. Believe me, with so many holidays and celebrations, I was beginning to get sick of it all. The barong's were dancing on the street and loud noises came from the band. The pounding of the gong ...

Padangbai, Bali, Indonesia toubi-anscha... for our boat back to Bali we take advantage of the hammocks and say goodbye to all the great dive masters we met. I think Corrado is going to miss making fun of me as I laze around in my hammock each day beating the heat. The boat ride back to Padang Bay was uneventful and no one puked. Jason and Alison got a tip from a guy on the island who said the Ubud Terrace Bungalows guest house was a good place to stay so that's where we had the driver take us. Upon arrival they ...
Ubud, Bali, Indonesia travel_buddy... the birds are right outside my window, and luckily in a little distance this morning I watched a few ( small ) monkeys swinging thru the trees. I only have a fan in my room, but the breezes are wonderful; and my villa is sort of like a tree house and with the windows open it feels great and isn't hot at all. I can even sleep with the windows open since my place is so private, and very safe. They bring me my breakfast to my veranda in the ...
Ubud, Indonesia elizacass... Goa Gajah. By this point, the sun had come out and we were drying off quickly. Well, I was, but apparently Rach was still quite damp as she had a padded bra on and it wasn't giving up its absorbed rain nearly that quickly! We walked along the side of the road, out of town for what felt like forever, and, in truth, it was nearly three hours later by the time we finally got to Goa Gajah. The guidebook had been right about one thing: we knew we were getting close because every ...
