Kuta, at last

we made it! i can say that somewhat realistically too considering the lightning show we were witnessing from the window of our plane - while we were still in the air. smooth landing though, which i guess is what counts in the end. first time below the equator, and it did not disappoint. i think i saw the southern cross (i think). only downside is that i'm soooo close to australia, and it's soooo painful not being able to go. but i digress. no trouble entering the country, thanks for a cheap $...

Day 24 - Bali, Kuta - Surf's up!

WE packed up our stuff and after a final banana (actually pineapple has become my new favourite) pancake, we walked with our packs into town (well the main street). We were off to Kuta Bali on the Blue Water Express - double the cost for this fast boat but about 1/5 of the time. And it was fast, and bumpy (and a little bit wet). The trip was great. Tim got off on the 3x200Hp engines and we hooned, cutting through the swell creating huge sprays of water (I'm glad we weren't sitting on the top ...

Bali- Kuta Beach

We arrived in Bali on November 18th. We stayed at the Masa Inn on Kuta Beach per Liehao and Lisa's recommendation. November 19th we went to the beach and were approached by many touts...sarongs, surf lessons, mangos, jewelry, massages...you name it. The sun was pretty strong for our winter white skin. We got sunburned two days in a row, especially after taking a two hour surf lesson the next day. Both of us were able to get up after a few tries, but it was definitely off and on. November 21st...

Dreamland and Ulu Watu Beach

We rented a scooter again and went out to Dreamland beach and Ulu Watu beach, and Ulu Watu temple. Ulu Watu beach was in a cave. Beautiful view... We met some people from Australia in an internet cafe on Poppies 1 while we were searching for a place to stay in Sydney. They were telling us which areas to stay in Sydney, and later told Kristi that we could stay at their house near Sydney if we wanted. After we thought about it, we decided to accept the offer, but then couldn't find their hotel....

Arrival in Bali

We arrived in Kuala Lumpur at about 5am. I then had 4hrs 45mins to wait for my connecting flight to Bali. I tried to sleep for an hour in the deserted lounge, but didn't really manage much apart from drooling on my arm. I then had a wander about and found the gate where my flight would be leaving from. Once here I managed to sleep for about two hours which I was quite pleased with. They then went and changed the gate, which meant walking all the way round the other side of the ...

Hiking/Swimming

... down to a river. Crossing the river, we then followed the stone path up and up. By this time, we were no longer running. The kids had gotten tired about two minutes into the run, so it turned into more of a walk and a hike. We hiked up and up and completely left the city of Ubud. A few houses were visible in the distance, but we above everything, looking out across the mountains and valleys and river below. Bright blue and red birds flew beside us, flashing their feathers ...

Bali at last!

Hi! So we arrived to Bali a few hours ago after an exciting and long few days of traveling. Because of the weather conditions our flight from Vancouver to Hong Kong was delayed by 3 hrs, therefore causing us to miss our connecting flight to Bali. Cathay Pacific hooked us up with a 4 star airport hotel in Hong Kong for the night and rebooked our flight for today. It was actually great that it ...

... was patrolled by various kinds of monkeys, boars, marmants, varmints, and other creatures. my roommate was francisco, a pushing 50 architect from venezuela with a 6 board quiver, all freshly shaped and never waxed, with every piece of mac technology you could think of, a bunch of hair regrowth products, and the body of a 25 year old. he did yoga every morning. i also met a couple of guys from new zealand that i hung out with, super chill and funny, kind of ...

Yogi on the Loose!!!!

... made with no sugar or anything- they use natural sweeteners like agave nectar, etc. I know that I won't be able to eat like that all the time, but I'd like to carry over some aspects of the diet. However, I can't wait to have coffee again! I think I will remain a vegetarian though, as that is a very important aspect of a yogic lifestyle. Ok, that's all. It's hard to explain it all, but hopefully this posting made sense. I'll share more later as I develop. Cheers!

Nyepi in Bali

... We were surprised to have no issues with getting a visa & we annoyed that we didn't have to show our onward tickets as we'd booked a flight out the day before! We took advantage of the ride from the guys as it seemed the easiest option. Driving through Bali was a real eye opener, seeing so many motor bikes along the way. We drove through Denpasar (the capital) & made our way to Kuta (one of the main tourist areas). We ended up ...
