There was an included Avignon walking tour today. We opted for the easier walking tour. The boat docks right near the walled city. Apparently they kept the wall up since it can save the city from flooding in a bad storm. The city contains both the Palace of the Popes and the Petit Palace. We stayed behind and did some shopping and managed to grab a quick lunch ...

... When he was finally allowed to paint he painted 150 paintings. During this time he also did 100 drawings. Unfortunately none of his work is here. They do have pictures of his paintings in the spots where he painted. It was nice to be walking in his footsteps. However, I discovered that Arles did have a museum with his paintings L' Espace de van Gogh. Viking didn't arrange a visit on either of their Van Gogh tours - I find this unbelievable!

Arles is only 15 mins from our accommodation and I carefully park on the edge of the old town. Our first stop and one which is hard to miss is the Roman amphitheatre. It is like a smaller version of the Colosseum but for the most part is in much better shape. It's limestone walls have been cleaned and it towers majestically above most of the city.
