Shiho had to work today. It was unfortunate that I won't get the chance to hang out with her during the day but it gave me a chance to catch up with laundry and deal with a mess in my bag from my shampoo. On the bright side, despite numerous washings of my bag, there is a nice smell to it now. In the afternoon, Shiho's mother drove me into Takamatsu and her father rented me a bike. Then Shiho's cousin's daughter and her friend, both ...

Today was spent with my friend Shiho showing me around the area. One of my very first impressions is that there are vending machines everywhere! For some reason I have always wanted to come to Shikoku, maybe because it is more rural and less visited. So, here I am and so far I am not disappointed. I went right away to the famous strolling garden, Ritsurin, and strolled around in the perfect sunny weather and admired the perfect pine trees. Then I found my way to the electric railway and went to Yashima to a great fake village. You ...

... There was a big area devoted to cycads - enormous ones. I hope my three don't get to be that size. Evidently they are 200 years old, so it won't be my problem if they do!

Next stop was Kurashiki, a merchant town and port, beautifully preserved. Founded in the 17c, the buildings have an unusual black tiled appearance with thick white, raised grouting, very attractive. A river runs through the town ...
