Copper Mining Town

A big history in Copper Mining in this cute little town.
It relies on tourism now - all the copper has been taken out.
A lot of Cornish men came out here in 1800's to make their fortune in mining the copper. Now it is the best place to buy a fair dinkum Cornish Pasty. I love them.
We got a 'passport' from the ...

Day 21 - Rest day at Burra

Had a good rest day. Up at 7.30am for breaky before getting into the blog. It was great to get early text messages from my kids - Peter (26) and Kathryn (24) - wishing me a happy Father's Day. This was followed up later by an email from my other son Michael (21), who is on the Christian mission ship OM Logos Hope, which is in the Caribean.

At 11am we attended the Church service at the Uniting Church. This was a great little service - I think ...

Day 20 - Port Pirie to Burra

A great day's riding! Although the 121kms took 4 hour and 46 minutes, it was through beautiful farming countryside, with rolling hills, green wheat crops and paddocks of bright yellow canola. Jim, who has done the ride before, said it's one of the most picturesque days of the ride.

And the four major hills along the route proved to be fun and allowed us to stretch our legs. In fact, for some of us, the testosterone got out of hand, and we charged ...

Last night camp.

Friday 7th August 2009 I pump up the tyre first light and monitor the drop in pressure and decide we can make Ceduna and get it fixed there without the hassle of changing tyres. A tube was needed though to fix it as there were a number of punctures. Bloody tree roots! It cost us about 90mins and a lot of distance. We do though make good time and ...

Happy Birthday Ben you even get an extra half an hour in your day. Departed Hattah-Kulkyne at 9:30 heading for Burra over the border crossed the Murray River a few times including the ferry at Cadell. Arrived at Redbanks at 4:30 and brushed the dust off for a second night of camping by battery.

... a drive to Taylors Cellar door on a cold and rainy day to find an over crowded small room where you could smell the red being devoured. The best part about going to these cellar doors now are they are catering for the children with good little play areas set up just so mum & dad can taste test happily. We have been chasing a bottle of Taylors port that was given to us a long time ago but it was not here and the girl behind the ...

Red Banks Conservation Park

Red Banks Conservation Park...a great place, and home to the deadliest toilets in this world. Arachnophobes beware (although that is a somewhat redundant warning for those who know Jess), these toilets had some serious spiders in them. On the first trip to the toilet I noticed at least 7 large female redbacks (the Aussie equivalent to the Black Widow) sat in their webs on the toilet and around the pedestal ...

... night since all were flying back the next day hence he'd spend his birthday on the plane ... (except for Wee Leong and I, who were spending the weekend in Adelaide). When I made the reservation, I tried asking if they have any birthday cakes or any form of celebratory thing to offer as it was a friend's birthday ... the freakin' atas reply was, 'I'm sorry we don't do things like that ... we are very, very fine dining ...I'm ...

Barossa Valley

... s best wine producing region and is home to famous brands such as Jacob's Creek and Wolf Blass as well as many small independent wineries. Many local people here own small vineyards and rather than produce their own wine, sell their grapes to larger wineries. Wine producing here is still very much a family tradition and many use traditional methods, even the larger firms based here have a long history in the area. Johann Gramp, a ...

Wine country

With our van packed up and food in our cooler, Larry and I headed out 2 hours Northeast of Adelaide to visit the famous Borassa Valley. Arriving in late afternoon, we had time to visit a small winery. Here we were introduced to Sparkling Shiraz. Very nice. Cool and dry. After spending a precious $28 dollars for a celebration bottle, we headed to a caravan park to try out our van - and champagne (we were told we weren't ...
