Great place for a stay in Phuket

We are staying in a 2 bedroom apartment at Marriott's Mai Khao beach resort and have been very happy with the place. Huge apartment, very nicely decked out with modern, functional furniture...all the kitchen appliances and utensils you could ever need, and capacious washrooms (one for each bedroom). There are loads of free activities each day and the staff is super friendly.

The location is a little ways from the hustle and bustle of the 'touristy' area of Phuket, but if quiet is what you want, this place is wonderful. An almost empty beach of beautiful sand and huge waves and a quiet, family atmostphere.

All in all we are very satisfied.

Slept super well last night. Comfortable bed, great air-conditioning and...fatigue all contributed.

Woke to the most amazing torrential downpour (it is rainy season). Very cool to watch it from the balcony. Cleared up to become a very nice (though quite hot) day.

The rest of the day was a combination of reading, swimming, relaxing …

Our 6:30 flight from Bangkok to Phuket went without a hitch...albeit in a very, very basic plane. Not a problem for the short flight and we were very happy to land in Phuket where we finally were able to 'get warm'. I had pre-booked a shuttle from the airport to the hotel and it was a great relief to see our driver waiting for us "Mr. Ron Henry" …

... it was beautiful. Just like it is in the photos with the big rock sticking up out of the water and long tail. Boats lining the white sand beach. We had a right nightmare trying to get our boats into shore because we had to try and drag it and glide it in. We had around 1 hour there to get some gold photo shots. Didn't realise but krabi was effected by the tsunami aswell. The Poda beach had a post stuck in the ground showing where the water rose during ...

... to walk away instead. We got our last massage but only for half an hour this time as we were pushing it for time. I've already noticed bruises on my thighs and I'm scared to see what my back looks like as my massage lady was extremely hard, I ain't no ladyboy! Finally negotiated a cab to drive us past the airport to Splash Jungle, a water park in Phuket for the price we wanted. It's no Waterbom Park, Bali but it was a good way to ...

... Apparently other boats would be arriving and would be eating the same so there needed to be enough for them as well. So pretty much I ate what I could and was left hungry afterwards. After dinner it was time for the fire show which the tour staff performed for us all. It was a fun show with 3 performers and went for around 25min before it was time to head back to the boat to make the trip back to Ao Nang. As we were speeding very fast we were getting incredibly soaked. ...
