Historical Traveler Reviews Marriott's Harbour Lake Orlando

      Had a great time!

      from

My family and I just returned from Horizons and we had a great time! We own a 2 bedroom and we stay at Horizons every other year. The condo itself was better than I expected and came equipped with everything you could think of - washer/dryer, full kitchen, etc. We stayed in Building 15 and had a nice view of the lake right off the screened in patio. We had a huge TV in the living room (I don't remember having this 2 years ago!) which was a nice surprise. The condo had 2 bedrooms, with 2 separate beds in the kids room, the master bedroom had a King sized bed. Plus 2 full baths. I felt at home. The kids enjoyed the activities, although I feel they could add some new ones and I am still waiting on 'phase 2' (movie theaters, etc.). They did add miniature golf. The pool was great of course (although lots of kids - the are supposed to build an adult pool soon), and the bar and grill off the pool was priced reasonably and delicious. Also, everything is within a few miles - attractions, stores, Downtown Disney, restaurants, etc. I definitely look forward to staying there again!!!!

Do not book marketing (timeshare promotion)!!!

      from

I booked a marketing promotion to attend a marketing (timeshare) presentation at the Horizons through a salesperson named Beverly. Her office whose is located at the Residence Inn/Sea World Orlando. Promotion was for $199.00/3 nights, 2 bedroom villa etc......Yeah, seems wonderful thus far! Pay attention!!! I was told upon booking this promotion that there would be NO PROBLEM with cancelling. Here I am TRYING to cancel well in advance (over a month mind you). I called Beverly back ("please call me if you have problems, questions, concerns, cancellation") to be told that I must call a DIFFERENT number because she only books the promotions but can not cancel them. Go figure!!! I have been spending TWO days calling phone number after phone number being referred to person after person and guess what? Noone seems to know how or want to cancel my reservation and process my refund. Mind you Marriott took my money promptly (less than 24 hours after booking) and now that I want to cancel and my money back.....it's IMPOSSIBLE! I am STILL waiting for a call back (I've left 2 or 3 messages with different people) and in my last call had to threaten to contact the BBB and the Florida State Attorney General's office. Unless you want to be scammed.......do not conduct business with the Marriott Vacation Club! They love to take but not to return!!!!! BEWARE!!!! Feel free to email me, I'm telling the WHOLE TRUTH!

Loved our stay at Horizon's - kid/family friendly

      from

We stayed at the Horizon's March 29-April 2; our family of 4 had a great time. We had a lake view unit in the new building (Bldg 15). We enjoy the spacious accomodations, washer and dryer, kitchen and big screen tv. The unit was very clean and well kept. The on-premise minature golf course opened as we were leaving. We have stayed at 3 different time shares with Marriott; you always know what to expect. We are owners at Horizon's and proud of it.

      Entire family enjoyed Horizons

      from

We just returned from a trip with our family (myself, wife, and 2 kids 8 & 10). My parents joined us for the week.

With 4 adults and 2 kids we felt we had plenty of room. The condos were very nicely decorated and maintained. The few maintenance problems we reported were addresses IMMEDIATELY (they litterally had someone at the door inside of 5 minutes of our call).

The resort is still being built so there are visitors and not all facilities are complete, however the resort is very enjoyable even today. It will certainly only get better.

Great location. Only minutes from Disney, Universal or Sea World.

Definitely a family resort (cater to kids, with themes and activities; plenty of kids around). However, all ages in our 3 generations had a great time.

      Overrated! Overrated!

      from

The rooms are great! That is the selling point. This resort does not live up to the Marriott quality I am used to being a Gold member.

First within the workout room there were 3 out of 5 treadmills broken.

While on vacation they try and sell you an additional week. No one likes to be hounded by a sales person at any time.

The coffee vending machine (the only one) was out of order for 5 days despite my telling them several times.

They are constantly shuffling "potential" new owners around while you are trying to relax. I was walking down a side walk a few feet from the end and a sales person driving in a golf cark showing potential customers made me get off the path so that he could continue on with his "presentation"

There was a lack of communication when it came to starting various childrens activities. One person would tell us start and finish times different from another.

The additional charges for various ammentities are something you need to consider before buying a timeshare. Housekeeping, LD phone charges, newspapers, coffee are not included as with a standard Marriott hotel.

I think housekeeping was 20 or 30 dollars per day depending upon the level of service desired.

Is a time share a good deal? I am not so sure!

      100% Family and Kid Friendly!

      from

We highly recommend HORIZONS as it was spit-shine clean, guest and family-friendly, affordable, and spacious, spacious, spacious. Our 1100 sq. ft., 2 bedroom and 2 bath suite was better than our NYC apartment.

The 3 cable tvs, washer and dryer, full-size fridge, and even the interesting plates and bowls all made us feel like home -- though even better! We especially liked the screen-enclosed balcony with table and chairs, and a fan too. Our room overlooked a lake and was quite quiet too. The pool, with its pirate ship placed squarely in the zero-entry, kid friendly edge, provided excitement and hours of pleasure for our 5 yr. old son. He could have cared less about staying at the Magic Kingdom past 4pm since he knew he could go back to Horizons and swim to his hearts content. If I had only one bad thing to say, it would be that you need a car if you're planning to stay here. In Orlando, rental cars are dirt cheap, so it shouldn't be a problem. PUBLIX is an 8 min.

drive away, Sea World is 4 mins, and the Magic Kingdom parking lot was about 13 mins. HORIZONS even gives you a pre-typed sheet of local stuff you'll want to go to...so you don't even need to investigate on your own. They've done all the work for you. And the food at the poolside restaurant is pretty decent too. HAVE A BLAST!!

Your kids and family will love Horizons!!

      from

Our family of six (mom, dad, and kids ages 6, 7, 10, and 11) stayed at Horizons during the week of November 30-December 7, 2003. We were completely satisfied with the quality of accomodations and amenities available.

Having a 2 bdrm/2 bath suite with full kitchen and washer/dryer made for a stress free trip. Heated swimming pool with pirate ship and zero entry was a big hit with my children. They also enjoyed the on-site mini water park.

Also available were many organized free (or several for additional small fee) activities for all age groups (including parents).

Rooms were extremely clean and well maintained. Grounds were lushly landscaped. The resort is still under construction, but we were never disturbed by any construction activity. In fact, we never heard any noise from any other room during our entire stay.

Commute to all Disney parks was a quick 10 minute drive (and in December, no traffic). Quick and easy on/off to I-4.

We would definately recommend Horizons to any family looking for a more affordable answer to staying at Disney onsite.

      Absolutely Fabulous!

      from

My family and two of our friends stayed at the Marriott Horizons in Orlando in July of 2002 and absolutely enjoyed it. I am an owner there and am very glad for that! The accomodations are new and very luxurious. With two private bedrooms and bedding for six, it was perfect for my wife, 9-year old daughter and two of our friends. The resort caters to families and anyone who goes with a family will enjoy the main pool, which has a pirate ship in the middle of it. Even us adults enjoyed the fun it offered. There is so much to do in Orlando that a week doesn't even come close to giving you the time to explore it all. While we went to the Magic Kingdom, Universal was by far our favorite trip highlight. I would recommend this resort to anyone traveling to Orlando, and if you like it, I would highly suggest taking a sales presentation tour of the facility...It is well worth the investment.-A satisifed owner Mike

      Loved the Horizons

      from

Visited the Marriott Horizons during a recent visit to Orlando (Oct-2002). With 3 children, 10, 13 & 17, the Horizons resort was a home away from home, offering luxury accomodations in a relaxing setting in Orlando; all under the careful guidance of the Marriott Vacation Club.

With easy access to WDW, Sea World, and general features in the Orlando area, the Horizons provided an excellent and exciting adventure for our family. Children activities were numerous, and the staff couldn't have been more accomodating.

And yes, our family decided to purchase a week from the Marriot Vacation CLub based largely on the positive experience at this family resort.

      Great for families....We're going back!

      from

We were at Horizons January 25-February 1, 2002.

We loved the resort and have booked a return trip February 23-March 2, 2003. It is an excellent place for families.

We loved Horizons the moment we pulled up to the gate. To gain access to the inside you need a special "key" that lets you through. As you come over a bridge you can see how beautiful it is.

The lobby was decorated in a nautical theme and they have popcorn and fruit punch available for the kids. There are organized activities all day. There is a water interactive area called Water Works that is great for kids who do not want the pool but want to cool off. There are fountains and sprays and it is a lot of fun with a pirate theme. The main pool is also interactive with a huge pirate ship in the middle. It is zero-depth entry and has a few slides. There are 2 hot/tubs and a kiddie pool. The rooms are decorated nicely and are well stocked with anything you may need. It is very close to Se World and you can see their fireworks from certain parts of the resort. Your kids will love it at Horizons. You may have a hard time getting them to the parks!!!

There was also another waterslide quite similar, and they had water Tubes you go down in pairs, ones you go down in the dark, a 6seater tube and floating river. It was really fun and a nice break from all the crowds and lines, as we went at the end of the day and there weren't too many people around. We then went back to the hotel to get changed and went back to Hollywood studios ...

I had the lightest quiche I have ever had and Marilyn ate some sort of exotic cheese bread (I am sure there is nothing exotic about it, it just looked that way) and... because we could... we shared a creme brulee for dessert. Our first Fast Pass was for the Dinosaur Ride. Not scary, but only half our group tried it. Others had their photos taken with Donald, Goofy and the gang.

Our second Fast Pass was for Everest. This is a very cool ride but not for the faint of heart. You go forward, backward and encounter the abominable snowman. The three of us with nerves of steel loved this ride.

      Day 5 Date Night

A travel blog entry by ekramarczyk on Dec 29, 2013

One of my Christmas presents was to see the movie Hunger Games. Jodi gave the idea of watching it while in Florida and making a date night out of it. Jodi had already asked her parents to watch Kaleb and Kylee. Jodi and I chose dinner at Chili's at the LOOP Mall. This gave us opportunity to eat dinner, shop and watch a movie. We both tried something new ...
