Av Presidente Kennedy 5741 Santiago, Chile, 2-426-2000

Now we are back in Santiago. We did a tour of the city the morning after we arrived. Very interesting but because we were so exhausted from our Bolivian trip, we did not appreciate all that the city has to offer. In the afternoon we did a tour of the Jewish aspects of the city. By then we were more awake. There are about 12,000 Jews in Santiago out of a total population in the city of some 6 million. The whole of Chile has a population of 16 million with a total Jewish population of 15000. No...
Santiago, Chile alehrerI slept almost the whole flight, so it seemed to go very fast. Amanda woke me up at 6:00am. The plane was still over the ocean, but I could see the Andes mountains out the window to the left of the plane. We got to watch the sun rise over the mountains and just a little bit later the plane landed in Chile right on time! At the airport they checked my passport and then we caught a taxi cab to the Marriott hotel. It is kind of confusing though because everything is in Spanish! I should hav...

Santiago, Chile charal95We have been told that the seafood Chile could offer was strange and delicious. And we also did know that Chile is one of the main producers of wine. That is why we decided to visit that country for a few days and taste it. Our first visit was to a Wine Fair, where we could try and taste different wines from big wineries to very small production wineries. I remember that evening with myself tasting a Cabernet Sauvignon and trying to find the differences between the skies from the North Hemisp...
Santiago, Chile gourmandiseAfter a brief stopover in Auckland, New Zealand, we arrived here in Santiago de Chile about an hour ahead of schedule. We opted for a shuttle bus for the trip to the Marriott Hotel. The tickets are available for sale at the exit from the customs hall and it was all very simple and painless. Since our last trip to Chile in January 2005, a new cross-city tunnel has been inaugurated which more than halved the duration of the trip. In fact, a guy at working for Qantas in Sydney had told me that t...
Santiago de Chile, Chile john_lengacherWe loved Chile! Chile is a wonderful country...clean, orderly, friendly, beautiful and peaceful. We immediately felt relaxed and comfortable here. Unfortunately, due to the unplanned day in Juliaca, we arrived on Monday instead of Sunday and all the museums were closed. But we walked around the city, took the efficient and clean subway into town and ate McDonalds. They have something called the McNifica.....it's like a Quarter Pounder with mayonnaise...ugh. RJ liked it though. This is ...
Santiago, Chile rnrblogAhhhhh...back in Santiago. We arrived at the hotel close to midnight and went right to bed. We planned to spend the next day in Valparaiso which is about an hour bus ride from Santiago. So we got up early, made our way to the metro and rj figured out the correct bus to get on. Valparaiso is a pretty town known for colorful houses and the 'ascensors' (funiculars....http://en.wikipedia.org/ wiki/Funicular). It is beautiful and, like Santiago, calm, clean and secure. Going up the first fu...

... They also show films and entertainment during the journey so had the pleasure of really old Chilean movies on this trip, interspersed with strange Candid Camera style shows usually involving beautiful young women who suddenly find themselves unclothed in the presence of random men in the street. The stuff of legends. I'm going to spare you the details of the journey as I don't think it was terribly interesting but I will mention that I ...
Santiago, Chile bernadine... return. We sat on a couple of sofas and started chatting with Brent, the first Aussie we encountered on this trip. The beautiful hotel employee kept walking by and every time, Brent and I would stop mid sentence, watch her walk by until she was out of sight, and immediately resume our conversation as soon as she was gone. Ben just kept laughing at us, and recounted how at breakfast, all the men immediately stopped whatever they were doing as ...
