... looked like pastries). I was pretty unimpressed and found out later that it was due to most markets not opening in the cold (despite it being 4 degrees and sunny). I'd just found some interesting dreamcatcher and maple candy markets when I got a text from one of my hosts saying he was picking me up in half an hour because he was leaving work early.

Historical Traveler Reviews Ottawa Marriott Hotel
Just back from a 3 day weekend at this Hotel. Our party included one grandmother, 2 parents and 2 little boys. this hotel meet all of our needs very well. The rooms (connecting ones provided) were lovely, nicely sized, and the view from the 18th floor was beautiful. The staff were all very friendly, and answered all questions in a very professional manner. the pool area was very nice, there are not the typical large steps for a 3 year old to play on in the shallow end, but the lovely playroom with the treehouse made up for that. The game room with playstation videos was also a big hit. Finally the delivering of juice and cookies to the boys each night was a very nice feature, above and beyond what most Hotels in the US provide. We will certainly be back to this Hotel when we visit all the great museums of Ottawa again.
My family just came back from a short stay at this hotel and everything was PERFECT!! The staff went above and beyond to help us and everyone was so courteous and friendly! The hotel is in immaculate condition and kept very clean which is very important to me. The location is within walking distance of many of the major attractions and restaurants, etc. The kids' area is great with mini-golf, basketball, ball hockey area, video games room, and play area and so it even appealed to my 14 yr. old which I find exceptional. The Ottawa Marriott went the extra distance to make our stay great!!
Great hotel in a perfect downtown location
Located on the corner of Kent St and the Spark Street Mall, the hotel is in easy walking distance of all the downtown sights and shops. The staff were all immensely professional yet welcoming and went out of their way to be helpful.
The room was as one would expect from such an hotel: all in good order and our requested room type was easily available - even on a Priceline reservation!
We did not try the on-site restaurants, as Byward Market's many options were a short 10 minute walk away. There's a convenient Starbucks attached to the hotel, and a Tim Horton's across the street if you prefer.
I would be very happy to return to the Marriott on subsequent trips to Ottawa.
My family stayed at this hotel in July 2004 and had a very nice time. Facilities are excellent. We used gym and pool and were very pleased with both. Lovely shower/change room facilites. Great dining lounge for an evening drink. Staff were pleasant to deal with. As a travel agent, I would recommend this hotel wholeheartedly. Parking a little pricey but close to hotel.
Don't Expect To Get Much If You Are A Platinum
My mom & I stayed at the Ottawa Marriott for 4 nights July 2-6 2004. If you are a Marriott Platinum and you need 2 beds you will NOT be on the Concierge floor as entitled. They do NOT have rooms with 2 beds on this floor! You will get a regular room with no robes, water or turndown. You MAY get access to the lounge but you will probably have to ask! I could have gotten a room and a continental breakfast in any of a number of hotels elsewhere in town.
The staff is friendly but they do not have a sense of urgency about any problems. I only got concierge amenities when I asked for them. Took a couple hours. The rooms are extremely small, as are the bathrooms. They have extensive facilities for kids if you need them. If you want a quiet, relaxing time, stay someplace else. There are TOO MANY kids running all over, playing in the revolving doors, etc. The staff would not tell them to stop.
One afternoon, the fire alarm went off! Turned out to be false (probably the kids!!) However, they did not silence the ringing in the individual rooms while they investigated. (Perhaps they can't; however,I have stayed in other hotels where they at least make the noise stop!) They were shouting that it was being investigated (thehotel has an emergency PA system.) But the imformation was being screamed over the loudspeaker making the whole thing more frightening that it needed to be.
The windows were supposedly just cleaned inside and out according to a letter in the room advising that this was taking place the days we were there. Yet, there were all sorts of handprints and nose prints on the windows so you couldn't see out!
The hotel is about an 8-10 block walk from the ByWard market. There are not many places around to eat as you are in a business area. (Meaning the area immediately around the hotel.) Many things are closed on weekends. The walk isn't bad if it is not hot or if you don't have a person who can't walk so much with you. Otherwise, the Courtyard or Westin are MUCH closer to the market, and the Residence Inn is closer to the action and restaurants of Elgin street.
The breakfast buffet was decent, above average for a Marriott.
One bonus-you can't smoke in any restaurant or bar in Ottawa! THAT was great.
They had our checkout date incorrect. As a result our room was not cleaned until after 4 pm the day before we were to check out.
The city is very nice and we had a good time despite the rotten experience we had at the Marriott. I managed to get them to not charge me for parking, but again, I had to ASK for an adjustment. For you Marriott Elite members out there, don't expect to be treated as anything other than a regular guest. I spend over 100 nights a year at Marriott- branded properties and I am entitled to be upgraded, etc. I was treated nicer in a small inn just over the border in Prescott than I was here.
Will we return to Ottawa-yes. To the Marriott, no. I will try one of the other brands in town first. If you have specific questions, feel free to email me.
The Ottawa Marriott is a very nice hotel. Our room was comfortable and very clean. Our 2 year old son loved the swimming pool and childrens play room! Staff is very friendly. Especially the bellman (Charles was his name) who gave us lots of info on the city and directions.
We had a great stay at this hotel.
Stayed here for 2 nights in May 2003. Rooms were very clean and comfortable, typically Marriott with the added extra of a heated floor in the bathroom! The best part however was the staff. They could not have been friendlier or helpful, even to the extent of lending me an umbrella as the heavens opened, and allowing me to hold on to it for the duration of my stay.
I was there on business, but having looked over the kids facilities next to the pool I would not hesitate to bring the family with me next time I am in town.
on new years eve 2001-2002, my gf and I wanted to spend spend the night at a hotel and celebrate alone. We found at the last minute available rooms on new years eve!! which was pretty impressive. It only cost us 99$ can, and for that time of year, i was really impressed having a lot of hotel experience. I also have to say, that they let me pay in cash instead of using a credit card, my credit card was stolen. I give it two thumbs up!
beware of people yelling once in a while in the hallways, which was ok, since it was new years.
Great Place for a Family
I stayed at the Ottawa Marriott in August 2002 with my 8 year old son. The staff is fantastic and friendly, the business centre with internet access was very useful and best of all the kids' room and facilities were VERY appreciated by my son. I will definitely stay there again.
My family recently stayed at the Ottawa Marriott. The staff was friendly and efficient. The hotel is set up for business travellers with express check out and computer ports but is also great for families because of the children's play area, games room and mini golf. The hotel is well located. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.
