Day 1 - Flight to NYC
Mark:
Taxi at 7am, that was a mistake! He must have used every back street from home to Heathrow, Tina was green by the time we got to the A3. We got there eventually at about 8:20 so in good time. Check in was simple and very organised having on-line check in and fast track security is a bonus. Managed to pack down to 23kg and 19kg so a …
On our way...
Up early this morning so we can get on our way. The kids are excited to be going but it's still early and we haven't gotten on the plane yet. They are pretty good travelers so hopefully they will be good. We have two flights today with a layover at LAX for a few hours so hopefully that break in travel will help. Newark airport is lovely this time …
Boston
... It looked nice enough and very sociable with more people our age in it. We then got shown to our room and our hearts sank again. It looked like camp again but worse. It was just 4 bunk beds with no sides on it, and the floor was covered in suitcases. After the initial shock we just laughed. We then got changed and straight into bed. It was baking. There was no ac and we definitely noticed it. But we got some sleep eventually and made it through the ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Newark Liberty International Airport Marriott
Ok place for the night
We spent one night on our way to England. It was clean, convenient, and the staff was marvelous when we mentioned the airline had "misplaced" our luggage. We got lots of those goodies that you take for granted but really need. Very quiet for being so close to the airport. I don't think I would want to do a long-term stay here but for a place to stay between flights it was fine.
Stop over at Newark with young kids.
We spent three nights at this hotel before continuing on a fly drive tour of the North East. It was a welcome site after a 7 hour flight from London. Easy transfer from terminal C on the shuttle bus. Clean and comfortable room , with a view of Manhattan. The breakfast was included in the $109 room rate booked on the Marriott site. That was excellent.
We used at taxi from the hotel to Newark Penn station($15) then took the PATH train to 33rd st . $3 return was good value.
The hotel had a well stocked gift shop with snacks and drinks. As we had kids in tow we used the guest laundry which was useful.
The only minus point was the elevators. Due to some sort of dispute the were only two working, sometimes we had to wait as much as 15 minutes for an elevator, not good with an impatient 3 year old.
Overall a nice hotel and nice staff. I would stay again, if the price was right!
OK hotel, great park-n-stay rate...
Best of a bad lot... No problem for 1 nt. before departure... the park-n-stay rate was $79 with 7 nts. of parking... not bad... would do it again...
Nice night sleep
Great if you're just looking for a place to crash.
Much a do about nothing in terms of surrounding area.
Clean rooms. Nice bed. Clean bedrooms
Passable
I was disappointed to find the actual state of thing after reading the many positive reviews.
The hotel is about 20 years old, from the look of things: the doors are painted with 80'ish pink, and many surfaces had chipped. The furniture is not exactly modern. The room is a bit cramped. The bathroom mirror looks aged. The carpet in the room is quite decent, but in the hallways not, a bit dirty. There is a broken refrigerator left in the hallway, as well as someone's dinner, which didn't do much for the first impression. There is fingerprint smudge on the window. The sheets and towels are ivory colored, not white. Who knows what kind of stains they hide.
On the positive side, the staff is very nice. I left a large tip. Obviously everyone is trying to help the visitors. The hotel room is very quiet, amazingly so, despite of the fact that the hotel is in the airport and right next to the NJ turnpike.
There is a $20 parking fee. There is a $9 internet fee. There is a $4 Evian water fee. The hotel needs serious, major renovation. Without it, no matter how much good service the people give, it is still second rate. It is the grandmother of a Marriot! Without the renovation, I think it's worth only about $80/day. Don't get suckered into payinig Marriot fee for a not so Marriot standard!
Convenient
Stayed at the Marriott before an early flight. Never heard a jet, although the hotel is at the airport. We did have over a half hour of loud commotion at midnight when a student group on our floor returned from the city. There is a nice fitness center and indoor/outdoor pool and jacuzzi. Dinner at the American Grille was okay. Ask for an east-facing room on a high floor for views of the runways and the Manhattan skyline.
Best part of Newark
Right in the middle of the airport, it's not cheap, but rooms are in good condition and very quiet and well appointed. Food and service are excellent. This is a well maintained and operating Mariott property.
Sooo nice and quiet
My wife and I recently stayed a night here. We were absolutely amazed at how quiet this hotel was, especially considering it was right next to the airport. We didn't hear a plane once. The hotel itself is very nice for a chain, as well. Highly recommended for a stay near the airport.
Quiet Break from the Big Apple
Our band took a trip to NYC in June of 2003 and stayed at the Newark Marriott. The rooms were large and nicely equipped to cater to all needs. The beds were comfortable. The T.V. got many channels, the desk was roomy and the desk chair was comfortable. The view was not much but... it's by an airport! You couldn't hear the planes from the rooms.
The pool was not large but big enough to house the guests. There was a jacuzzi that was nice as well. The health club portion was well equiped and had 4 tredmills. The cheesecake that I had from room service was to die for!! All together, we really enjoyed our stay. (Bring your own coffee though.. I heard it wasn't great! There is a small gift shop downstairs that sells starbucks though.)
Fine Choice
I know nobody cares much what airport hotel they stay at, but I must say this one was nice, and the room service dinner we had (standard fare - salads, hamburgers and the like) was excellent, and everything arrived exactly as ordered. If traveling that way again, I would definitely stay there again.
