Day 8 - Memphis, Tennessee
We awoke early having both had a restless night; AJ because the bed was too small and me because I had visions of madman storming the room...overactive imagination! We set off down the I-40 W towards Memphis and stopped off at Exit 108 for breakfast at McDonalds. When in Tennessee you must try a McGriddle...so we did! It's basically a McMuffin …
Day 9 - Memphis, Tennessee
We had a lazy lazy lie in...something to do with Beale St and "Big Ass Beers" methinks. Consequently we didn't walk out the door until midday! We walked a couple of blocks to the Mud Island monorail and purchased our tickets to head over to the little island off Memphis. It wasn't until I was paying for the tickets that I noticed the monorail is …
Day 10 - Memphis, Tennessee
Our final day in Memphis started by collecting the car and heading to Stax Museum, a must on Aaron's to do list. And it didn't disappoint. We started with a 20 minute on the history of Stax Records and the various artists; Otis Redding, Isaac Hayes, Sam & Dave and Booker T & the MG's. We were instantly tapping our toes and doing the "head …
Gospel, Blues and Southern Fried Chicken
... Beale Street, a tacky mall full of dive bars and eating houses, but very interesting and managed to see a great blues band on a Sunday night.
Today we went to the famous and beautiful Peabody Hotel, they have 5 resident ducks who live on the roof and each day at 11am they are marched into the elevator and over a red carpet into the fountain. They stay here all ...

Memphis Marriott-Downtown
We stayed at this Marriott for one night over Memorial Day weekend. Hotel was easy to locate.
Positives:
Hotel was nice, rooms were nicely decorated, seemed to be newly remodeled. Staff was courteous. Valet parking was efficient. Breakfast buffet and Graceland tickets were included in our price. This saved us some money. Buffet breakfast was good, waffle and omelet station included.
Negatives:
Getting our vouchers for Graceland and the breakfast was a little unorganized. They didn't give them to us upon check-in. I was tired and didn't notice until later. When I went back down to get them, it was a little unorganized, but I did get them with no questions. My only real complaint is the shower. I had to take a cold shower. The water was barely warm when I started the shower, I knew I'd make it quick. But by the time I got our (less than 10 minutes) the water was cold. when BF got in a few minutes later, though, it had warmed up again (not HOT- but do-able).
Overall, I would definitely stay here again if they could promise me I would have hot water for my shower.
Terrific Staff. Great Hotel
Was in Memphis for 1 night, January 29, 2005. Arrived early, 11 a.m. I did not expect a room to be ready. The staff was great. I was given a room right away. When I arrived in the room, the person responsible for cleaning the room was just finishing up. She was just as friendly and courteous as the front desk personnel. I dropped off my bags, freshened up, and hit the city. I returned at about 11p.m. Had a drink in the bar, again staff great. Checked out in the morning with no problems or complaints at all.
Very convenient
We just returned from Memphis. We stayed at the Downtown Memphis Marriot. We were there for a convention. It was literally right across the street from Cooks Convention Center. Actually, connected. The hotel was completely renovated from the last time we were there. The room was clean, the bathroom was very clean. The retaurant there was great for breakfast. TheTrolly's bar's bartenders were very amusing and gave generous liquor in the mixed drinks. The trolly is right outside for your downtown needs: Beale street. etc.The girls at the front desk were very imformative and friendly. We went touring to Graceland.
Great Everything!!
My stay at the Marriott was wonderful. They provided me with the best service possible and if the couldn't provide it for me they could find someone who could. The food was wonderful. Great Southern Style food at the Magnolia Grill. The workout room had top notch equipment and was only available for those whom had room key. That was a nice safety standard I felt. I would stay there again. Very Nice! Great Everything!!
Great bargain on Priceline!
Plug in 3-star hotel and Downtown Memphis on Priceline, and you get a great hotel room for $50. The Marriott is a well-maintained, large convention hotel located just blocks from all downtown attractions. You can't beat it for the price.
The worst Marriott I've ever been to
The non-smoking room smelled like smoke, and the room was bleak and depressing. Had a good view though. I could hear every word from the next room, but they were shouting...if they were just speaking it might have been ok.
The bed was sunken on both sides.
And the staff was so unhelpful. I would call down for one reason or another, and each time the person would "transfer" me and actually hang up on me. Or I would get transferred from person to person.
Nice place to stay!
Very nice hotel. Service was excellent. Room was nice and clean and very comfortable to stay in. Would stay at this hotel again.
Nice place to stay!
Pricelined this hotel ($50 + taxes) the night before on our way home from FL. It was easy to access off the freeway and we were able to get a king room w/a fold-out sofabed - it was a corner room so it seemed larger than normal and we had plenty of space w/2 small children. We walked down to Peabody Place and took the trolley back - there is a stop right outside the hotel. Parking was $8 at the convention center next door (self parking). Very quiet hotel although there was a wedding reception going on.
Better than Expected
This hotel was much nicer than I expected. It has been remodeled so it looks and feels brand new. I was worried because it was a 3-star hotel and I prefer to book 4-star if I don't know the place. I can't think of one negative thing to say about it. The room was nice and even had bottled water in the room. The people were nice. The lobby is impressive. It has a nice bar, nice gift shop. We didn't try the restaurant. Parking is convenient - $7/day. The best thing is you can catch the trolley right out front to take you to everything downtown - Beale, Peabody Place, 2 blocks from the Redbirds Stadium, Pyramid, etc. Mud Island is around the corner. Memphis is a great town with plenty to do and the Marriott is a nice place to stay.
