Civil War Museum

... to remember I still need to be able to fit on the plane to go home!!!<br><br>We stopped in at Bardstown along the highway to look at the civil war museum and the historic original Bardstown. They'd moved some old bulidings from around the area to the one spot and it was a bit like the Telegraph Station in Alice Springs where you could walk around looking into them and seeing how people used to live.

... frazzeled nerves but othewise safely.<br><br>Taylorsville State Park is lovely. The park is very quiet and peaceful. There is not much to do there other than walk trails but the park itself is very pretty. They have 30amp service and water but no sewers. The lots are nicely spaced and it was not crowded. The bathrooms were immaculate and the staff was very friendly and courteous.<br><br>We stayed until Tuesday and next stop is Bowling Green, KY.

River City Mocha

A short walk from the hotel lead us to the Louisville Convention Center and my first Kentucky Starbucks. I made it a mocha since it doubled as my breakfast. I asked the barista if they carried city mugs and he replied with a slight southern tang, "Nope. Small market."<br><br>Right.<br><br>

... s. He built an actual hotel in 1835 that was visited and praised by Charles Dickens, Jefferson Davis and 3 presidents. According to my informational magazine in the hotel (the one I'm reading in the photo...) army guys Sherman and Grant plotted a battle together in the hotel. That hotel burned to the ground and was replaced in 1869, only to be torn down in 1921. Al J ...

Preparing for the Trip

With two 8 hour days of work remaining before our trip I find it increasingly hard to focus and stay on task...there are still a couple of loose ends to tie up before leaving and I find myself obsessing about them while working. I've made most of my miscellaneous purchases. But I still have to put together our travel binder and figure out how to combine my clothes and personal items into one small carry-on piece of ...

The vacation continues on the drive home

... we were driving through in WV were the Alleghany and the Shenandoah. The beauty is stunning. I am familiar with driving through the Smokey Mts around Chattanooga, TN but this was something altogether different. These mountain ranges that go up the east seaboard of the US are, I believe, the oldest mountain range in the world. Because they are so old they are not as tall as the Rockies so they don't have the bare rock and snow at the top ...

Bernheim Forest

Oh the wonders of nature and nature-stream restoration projects I volunteer on. Bernheim offers an abundance of programs for schools and families that educate and allow you to help conserve some nature! <br><br>Also, this park has many, many hiking trails. Yay hiking! We all know how much I love that. :)<br>

... that they can't get the alarm shut off since they haven't paid their monthly bill to the security company. Lovely. 6:15AM - At this point, I'm less worried about losing an outside mirror on my vehicle and drive between the two fire trucks and come out unscathed. I end up grabbing a sub par breakfast at Cracker Barrel and get my ass on the road. Thank you Nashville, I'll be sure to drive extra fast through your state in the future to prevent any further chances of headaches.

... lore? Everyone who had lived back there had gotten too old and had moved on. And everyone who lived back there now hadn't been doing it for more than a couple years at most. So it was up to me to relay the entire grisly story to her, which may be the point at which worms started coming out of the babies' eyes as well as their mouths. J listened with jaw dropped. I thought for a minute I'd freaked her out thoroughly and was going to have to chalk up one more disastrous attempt at ...
