Trip Down Memory Lane
Last Sunday (March 25) we took a friend to visit her husband in the Captain Cook hospital in Middlesbrough - about a half hour drive from Guisborough. Since she planned to be there for a couple of hours, John thought it might be a good idea to visit the Captain Cook Birthplace Museum and Stewart Park which was right around the corner. What a …
Durham and York
Finished the cereal we've had left over at the hostel. Walked to the car, filled up the tank just outside Edinburgh and headed towards Durham. Stopped on the coast after Dunbar for a few photos of the cliffs. Continued the long drive south to Durham. Arrived at The Sands car park at 2. Had a quiche and a slice of orange cake at a Mediterranean bakery west across the river from the Durham peninsula. Came up to Palace Green where we saw the entrance to Durham Castle and more ...
Airports and aeroplanes

I killed a few hours watching Cool runnings on my lap top and then more of my friends in the UK started to wake up so I made the most of the free wifi and chatted to people on Facebook. I haven't really slept since I was at home, in my bed, with Konrad. I miss him and have been seeing his ...

A York That´s Not New
... to continue on your way. I would have included synagogues, but these are few and far between, or are simply locked up during the day. Mosques are usually open, but they have few places to sit, so we avoid these as well. Anyways, after the service, we did have a chance to wander through the cathedral, and it is, indeed, grand and loaded with the history of its royal patrons and religious leaders dating back over the past 7 centuries. Besides that, it ...

TravelPod Member ReviewsMarriott Hollins Hall Hotel & Country Club Bradford
We would recommend this hotel. There was a mix-up with our reservation and the front desk staff did a wonderful job making everything right. The food in the restaurant was delicious and the breakfast buffet left nothing to be desired!

Historical Traveler Reviews Marriott Hollins Hall Hotel & Country Club Bradford
Loved it! Great place for a romantic/relaxing getaway..
We have just returned from a weekend break at Hollins Hall - it was fantastic. The food was gorgeous and the staff were very friendly and incredibly helpful. I would definitely recommend this place as an ideal location for a romantic/relaxing getaway. Its worth every penny you spend!
Lovely facilities - Room not up to scrach
We stayed at hotel for bank holiday break. Facilities were excellent and breakfast was great. However, the room was not up to scrach. Reported faulty lighting in bathroom on arrival Saturday and it was still not fixed by departure Monday. Not very impressive for a chain such as Marriott. Also, lamps were dusty. Would have expected more. Would return again to hopefully better housekeeping
Nice hotel for a break
Stayed here in early August. Superb location for access to Harrogate etc. Nice and relaxed. Good breakfast. The staff, as with all the other Marriotts we stayed at, were superb - attentive, polite, helpful. More than happy and will be going back soon.
Rooms are a bit small for kids as well, but hey, we managed!
Great location - ideal for a get away
We stayed in early June when the UK had a "heatwave". Whilst the recepition areas was airconditoned the rooms were not. The rooms were very hot and stuffy. This did make sleeping difficult especially when the room overlooked the rear of the hotel and the noise from the disco in the Function Suite kept us awake until the early hours. The Hotel says that they will be dealing with "the ventilation issue".
The rooms were of average size and very comfortable and the Staff and decor were first rate as were the breakfasts.
All in all a great place to stay if you want to spoil yourself.
Will go back in the Autumn when not so hot !!
Had our wedding here & loved it!
We had our wedding reception here and we loved it. The staff were fantastic, the food was gorgeous and the rooms were really lovely too. We stayed in a Junior Suite and I can definately recommend it! All of our wedding guests commented on how beautiful the hotel was - the surroundings, etc. Everything was perfect and I just wanted anybody else who is considering getting married here to go ahead! Oh and not forgetting the amazing breakfast - fabulous!
We Liked ItT!
My husband and I stayed at the Hollinshall for one night over the Bank Holiday weekend.
We chose this Marriott after spending a weekend at it's sister hotel - Breadsall Priory in Derbyshire earlier in the year.
Hollinshall was in a great location, with the most stunning views over the Eshott Valley, however, for us, Breadsall Priory has the edge.
The staff at Hollinshall were excellent, most friendly and offered great service. However, we arrived at Sunday lunchtime so chose to eat at the Long Weekend Sports Bar. What a dissapointment! The choice of food was poor, the carvery only had one choice of meat and everything was dried out under the heat lamps, not very appealing! The service was poor, our dirty plates were just left, even though they were on full show to members of staff, they chose to look at them, then just carry on walking. Very poor service when not even busy.
The poor service at lunchtime was compensated at dinner. Heathcliffes reastaurant was just perfect, the menu had an excellent choice, the food was wonderful with service to match. Breakfast the next morning was equally as good.
Our room was fine, we had requested a "nice view", we got a room which overlooked the car-park! Although it was small, the bed was huge and most comfortable. The bathroom was spacious enough with an excellent assortment of toiletries and a great supply of towels.
As the hotel is handy for Eshott, the home of Emmerdale, we had a drive into the village. It was very dissapointing and lacked atmosphere. The Woolpack was awful, nothing like we expected. It was wierd to feel that "I've been here before feeling" even though we hadn't!
Overall we enjoyed our stay at Hollinshall and we will no doubt stay again in the future.
Weekend break
We stayed here for 2 nights, arriving on the Friday.
The room was spacious and very clean. The shower was fantastic. The breakfast was above average, hot and fresh and plenty of choice. The staff were very friendly. The leisure facilities were also excellent.
The only small grumbles that we had were that the mattresses and pillows were too soft for our taste. As other reviews have mentioned the directions given on the hotels website are misleading and hard to follow.
My wife and I would recommend this hotel.
Best Marriott I have stayed in.
I have stayed in a few Marriott Hotels in the UK, and this is easily the best.
The staff were very friendly and well trained. The restaurant food was excellent and very good value if you are on a DBB package. The dining room is very comfortable and well furnished.
The room was very nice but can get very hot and stuffy. There is no air-con but a fan is provided.
The golf course is superb and hiring a buggy is essential unless you are super-fit!
The location is great for a short break but do not rely on the directions printed on the Marriott website because we got lost following them around Bradford!
I will definitely stay here again.
A good hotel made great by the staff
We stayed here as a family for a short break in March. The room was clean and functional and the rate was excellent - family room and kids go free. Breakfast was good and fresh, and the leisure club is excellent - big 20m pool and jacuzzi and a very well equipped gym. The best thing was the staff, nott just polite and helpful, but friendly and anticipating our every need. Requests for extra towels were answered in 5 minutes; despite being busy the breakfast staff were keen to make the morning as pleasant as possible. Truly "better than american" service with Yorkshire friendliness and warmth!
Nice corporate hotel
Got a deal here in 2003, and was quite pleased. Marriott are a good chain and this is an ok hotel. Don't pay too much and you won't be disappointed.
