    So on we drove in the sticky sweaty heat, across the border into France. We'd originally planned to go to Italy from Austria but the dog (and us) could just not take the heat. So we figured we'd end the trip with a little more France. It's too far to go all the way south (unless we stay away forever!) so we are thinking Brittany and Normandy will round things off nicely.     ... with lots of tourists. The large river cruises dock here on the River Rhein. We went on a petit road train around the sights and then the next day an open top canal cruise. Apparently they have amazing Christmas markets or Christkindelsmarik held every year since 1570. We found one Christmas shop that is open all year long.     ... couldn't get near an ATM to get cash. Eventually we gave up and headed north, to pick up the Black Forest High Road (Schwarzwaldhochstraße) towards Baden-Baden.

    Along the way we had two stops - one at Allerheiligen where there were waterfalls that you could hike along for free, and one at Mummelsee, a mountain lake where there was a nice stop with a resort hotel.
