Relaxing Reims

Another couple of gloriously sunny days in France were to be had at Reims. There is of course, the obligatory Cathedral, which in this case just happens to be one of the largest and more important ones in France as most French Kings were anointed here. The cathedral is rather awesome, even with the part shroud of scaffolding obscuring some of our views. Apparently, Reims is more or less the capital of champagne territory, so it looks like its a change ...

Provins and Reims

... We had very, very tasty snails in the first course, then Paul had rabbit and I had lamb in the second course (also very tasty). Paul had a cheese plate, with a selection of sheep, goat, and cow cheeses. I had a dessert: bananas and chocolate in a filo dough purse. I thought it was good (not great), but Paul didn't like the plantain-style banana. We also had a bottle of excellent Beaujolais. Lovely meal, about three hours of good food and good company. We played our part of the concert much better than the previous day (thankfully, or Viv may have shot us!), and included Ash Wednesday (our feature piece with the video accompaniment) and Hannah's trombone solo. Here, the campground was closed until May, so I set up the tent in a field next to some fishing pond (no shower tonight!). I camouflaged my trailer and took the bike up the hill to see the large cathedral and get some food. Sometimes all it takes is some hot food and nice scenery to make the day alright...though a shower would certainly help!

One Fantastic Cathedral but the Parking was Tough!

Reims, to me, was like a miniature Paris, but with way less people. There were tres chic shops and people still bustling about getting on with their lives. However, getting into the city and locating parking for our camper van was way ore challenging than we expected! No offense to Rick Steve's but he needs to have Joe write the directions sections of his books; his customers would be a lot happier! Once ...
