But a pleasant ride no less, was aiming to go bit further but lost two time zones today so two hours less riding I am now five hours ahead. ... it’s not obvious where it is. I ask some locals on the street and he gives me a bottle of Kazakh Port from his boot and then escorts me to the hotel. The hotel has a 5 course meal prepared for me which I destroy. Back to bad roads and the ride today put me in more interesting scenery and in butterfly land. I’ve never seen so many butterflies for the majority of the ride. My helmet and clothes are completely splatted ...

          South of Siberia

To hear the name of Siberia is freezing but to be there was lovely. The people are nice and friendly, the city is strong and well constructed, sorrounded by the Miass River and circled by woods both inside and outside town.
The cathedral is the most wonderful gothic you can picture on a first rainy, then windy and finally snowy evening.
Don't miss it, it's 2.5 hrs. south of Moscow.

... as the weather changed minute by minute. I thought it best to put on the seatbelt and close my eyes, and two hours later we were twenty minutes early for our train at its next stop. We paid the man 90 pounds, as we managed to beg him to drop the price to 4500 rubles, and when the train pulled in, we hopped to find ourselves on the nicest, most modern carriage we have yet seen, carpets, double-glazing, air conditioning, padding on the seats, and two girls smiling at us, both ...

... have told us something! Not to worry, the border officials were really nice about it (probably thinking, 'dumb Kiwis') and after having us empty out the truck, letting the drug dogs sniff through it and checking underneath with mirrors, should we have secreted anything, they waved us through into Russia. Yay, let another adventure begin.
It was only a short drive to our hotel in Chelyabinsk so we stopped of for a (real) coffee at a roadside cafe. (Not ...
