    ... whom the locals ignored. Paying the bill, I saw what I got was cheaper than what I ate so decided just to pay for that and a beer 25 TD.

    Back at the hotel c 2245. Took the computer to reception. The wifi was operational but not functional. The locals use the reception area to convivialize rather than staying in their rooms, bearing in mind they do not drink.     ... donkey pulling a cart and watched as some camels came into view. (Yay finally camels.)

    We finally got back in the car and headed down the road in the direction we had come from the night before. We passed the now abandoned checkpoint where the dude with the AK 47 put a little bit of a scare into me (only the barricade topped by razor wire remained and it was off to the side of the road). Still not sure what that was all about.

    ... amp; we had to remove our shoes before entering. Some old men were reading from the Torah & discussing things when we were there. Next door is a guest house for all the pilgrims. From there we went to see a local potter making pots etc as this is an important local industry.

    Day 9 & 10

    The following morning we headed towards Djerba, a tourist island near the Libyan border. The roads were good, and after a short ferry trip costing only 0.800 TD (Less than R5) for all of us plus Corrie, we arrive on the island around midday. We found a little place on the beach were a room for 4 was only 4TD more than camping, so we stayed there for two days, within 20m of the sea. ...
