... met Bernie Betschel (another cousin - brother to Lydia) and went on to his place in Schoerningen. What a wonderful and warm welcome I received. ... the ancient materials and then if someone needs a door, they have a choice of a 1000 ancient, original doors.

Someone asked why all the street names have a point (full stop) behind them. The guide explained that Quedlinburg wanted to change the street names in the past, but Berlin ruled: "no, they are staying the same, full stop!"

Arrived in Quedlinburg in the early evening. The city center is a maze of one-way streets combined with construction works blocking off routes I needed, but the apartment owner had already offered to come find me if I could not find the apartment.

Afterwards it turned out I was basically just one block away from the apartment when I phoned him, but when he picked ...
