Herrenhausen Castle overlooks the 50 hectare baroque formal garden. Sophia of Hanover had this garden designed and constructed, with the lawns, hedges and pathways, not to mention the statues, in strict geometrical patterns. Sophia met an untimely death during her morning walk through the gardens she loved.

Around 90% of Hannover were destroyed during WW2 and when I saw some of
the old houses that remained untouched it really broke my heart as I
could only imagine how pretty this city must have once been.
