06/11/2009 - We left our peaceful b&b and Capitola behind and headed south on Hwy 1 to Monterey, stopping off a couple of times at beaches along the way. The weather was a bit chilly though, and only the surfers were brave enough to be in the water.
We arrived in Monterey, checked into our hotel, The Mariposa Inn, and headed down to the harbour and beach. There wasn't a lot to see, so we took refuge from the weather in The London Bridge Pub on the seafront. We had a typically Engl...

... caught up on sleep after San Fran. Up at 9am and headed towards Fisherman's Wharf and looked in lots of gift shops. Rich got tempted by clam chowder so we had lunch on the pier, sitting next to lots of huge pelicans outside the window! Very scary. Then drove down Cannery Row, named after a John Steinbeck novel! Went in a shop that sold things that ...
Monterey, California, United States rich_charlotte... Ryan and I did a bit of waterfall showering. The water was cold but like always, exhilarating. I kept laying on/hugging the rock where the water fell, just rolling down over my head and body. Standing under a waterfall is something I will forevermore seek out. Especially if it's a little chilly. I kept drying off but getting back in. Next to the waterfall was a Redwood tree that I contemplated moving in to. It was hollowed out along the ...

Capitola, California, United States jimandlaura... me back. Harassment isn't a new idea and so I just do a double check to make sure these guys aren't gonna follow me into the dark, and they weren't, they were just standing together under a streetlamp. So, on and on I go, and I look up to see Lola and I see 3 guys. One with the hood open, working some jumper cables or something, another in the driver's seat, and one standing in the street under another streetlamp. My first instinct at that point was "OH ______!! THEY'RE STEALING LOLA ...

At these points I crawled along at about 20 mph, and as far as possible tried to drive on the other carriageway!

We stopped at one particular "Vista Point", but otherwise kept going until we got to the Big Sur Bakery - a log cabin by the side of the road which sold excellent coffee, cakes, cookies, and quite a bit else. It wasn't cheap, but the location ...
Big Sur, California, United States jimmcauliffe... 8217;s a really nice, pretty fancy restaurant and we were so under-dressed. Nevermind... this is after all a beach town. They didn’t complain, so we just went ahead and got seated. We saw the table next to us being served their main courses and we got really excited! The food was so so so so good!!! For starters, I had the Monterey squid with asian mango vinegerette and Azrael had the Dungeness crab cake with spicy tomato relish. My squid was pretty good ...

It is a stunning course that winds it's way along the cliff tops and over ravines and inlets to tight, well bunkered greens. I struggled round in 82 strokes that ...
Monterey, California, United States suenson_taylors... angle lens! Though mom and I both swear I'd taken it off my purse in the room, we were both mis-remembering. Once we found it, I remembered that I'd tucked it under the seat when we went in to eat somewhere so it wasn't tempting anyone. Well, I'd done such a good job hiding it that even searching for it, I couldn't find it :p And I'd looked in the car, too! Oh well, now I have a new wide angle lens, and it turns out the new one (which ...
Monterey, California, United States trapp1700... have never even heard of the 17 mile drive. It cost $9.25 which kinda sucked because I went over my budget in L.A. and am trying to stick to $20 a day for the next few days. It was worth it to do that drive though. Lots of the houses along that drive rival those that I saw in Beverly Hills and L.A. I'd rather live in one of the houses on the Monterey Bay cause I'd prefer a view of Monterey Bay over Rodeo Drive any day. It ...
