A cheaper and easier option would be to find a hostel for one night and then see what I do tomorrow. Still at the desk, I request the onna no hito to direct me towards Kagoshima’s cheapest establishment, at the same time getting in touch with the host I had planned for that night to tell him of my change in plans.

I walked to the hostel, checked in, threw my stuff down, ...

We caught the 8.42am shinkansen to Shin-Yamaguchi arriving there at 9.28am. From there, we caught the steam engine train, the SL Yamaguchi-go, to ...

... set out about 1620AD by the Lord of the area. They only occupy about 40000 sq ft but have everything, water complete with little islands, the arch bridge, and little miniature moutains, everything so compact. We had a lovely lunch there in the sun. The gardens were heavily damaged after the atomic bomb but have now been completely restored.

Then back on the tram down to the Miyajima ferry terminal. It is ...

... the shrines at the cemetery are all covered by individual roofs, even some of the livestock are under cover. It is extremely hot today and very humid , it had rained again overnight and was raining this morning when we woke up. Back to the ferry, it's time to get back to the shuttle and the ship. While we are looking at the volcano from the ferry, there is a big puff of grey smoke that billows into the air. That must have been a big burp! Back on the ship we are required ...
