... the uneducated Scott or I did.
Regardless we all enjoyed the palace very much, despite the rain and cold. Before we left the palace Mom made sure to snap a picture of the 4 of us wearing her famous "turkey hats" so we could at least feel some semblance of Thanksgiving here in Spain. We spent the later afternoon walking around the King's gardens outside the Alhambra and then headed back to the hotel so that Mom and Torrey could take another nap before dinner ...
... Spanish holidays. Most of them seem to be related to the church. It's interesting how today it seems like the church plays such little role in peoples lives but in the past it is what dominated most aspects of society. Back to today. I knew it was Thanksgiving but it sure as heck didn't feel like it. At school the teachers didn't bring up the subject or cut us any slack. The weather was kind of rainy today so that helped. It didn ...
Málaga, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands skivail89... and her friend, Rob flew to Spain to join them for Thanksgiving. They stayed in the coastal village of Nerja, so they were just down the road from us. They came in on the afternoon of Thanksgiving, so we decided to have our dinner on Friday (it was still Thursday in parts of the US, so we felt OK about it). Given that we didn’t have an oven, and there were no turkeys to be had in Spain, we had a truly Spanish ...

Today was a road trip day. Off to the airport to collect our car, a Ford, or "Fix Or Repair Daily". Actually, ours did a very nice job...
We drove to the coast, to the what-I-thought-was-the-small-village called Nerja. I'd read it has special caves with stalagtite & stalagmite formations, kind of like the Calsbad Caverns in New Mexico. In fact, once you ...
... and got some amazing Mediterranean fresh seafood for lunch!! It was great. We enjoyed the beach a little while longer, but the wind picked up quite a bit. Before we knew it, a calm sea, was rocking in the waves and the wind. By the way, the water was absolutely freezing. With some time to spare, we headed for some great Sangria!! yummy!! Later we caught our bus back, both of us very sleepy, and went out for the night. Today, I really didn't have ...
Nerja, Spain and Canary Islands amy22... cartoon shows we liked growing up!! It was strange to find out that unlike in the states how Friday the 13th is a day a lot of people are superstitious about, in Spain it is Tuesday the 13th!! I thought that was pretty cool!! The cartoon show talk was cool too. She liked the Flintstone's and the Smurfs, aka los Pitufos. Thought that one was funny!! Nothing else exciting today, packing for Morocco!!! Adios!!
Granada, Spain amy22... bar for tapas, and a late night craving for ice cream later!!! Haagen Dazs!!! yummy!!! One day last week my madre was telling me how she was going to cut her son's hair over the weekend!! I told her I needed a trim, so after she cut his hair, she trimmed mine up!! That was a nice money saver!!! Then Colette, Julie, and I went to go to this art museum, but of course it was closed for siesta:( We ended up walking up to the actual university ...
Granada, Spain amy22... with 2 other girls who I met whom were also in the AHA ILAACA program traveling to Granada, were specially taxi'd across the airport and sprinted through security (I had to chug the contents of my Nalgene because they didn't believe it was only water). But we made it on time. Our luggage didn't. So after the crazy flight from London to Madrid (2 hours, I got to sleep because I ended up sitting in an empty row; woohoo ...
Granada, Spain, Spain boldtel... was pouring rain when we left Granada. After going over a few mountain passes, the skies cleared. We end up in a small beach town called Nerja. Angeles recommended this town so we were eager to see what it held. It was wonderful. Most of the coastline of Malaga is highly developed. In contrast, Nerja is picturesque and charming. What´s more is that there are snowcapped mountains within view that seem to pour right down to the ocean. The ...
Nerja, Spain kylajane37... from people staying in Madrid. Luckily the people at the bus were able to point me in the right direction. I found the hostel with a Belgian guy who was also staying at the hostel. The hostel was very nice, with my room opening out to the roof tip balcony, and hot showers.. a nice change from Madrid! I met a couple of (lovely) canadian girls (hi Dunja and Lara!) and we went to the Alhambra together the next day ...
