Historical Traveler Reviews of Marina Rio Lagos
Lovely hotel, very friendly staff.
from Travandclair
We have just returned from 8 nights at the Marina Rio. It was supposed to have been six nights but we had such a good time here that we decided to stay on.
Our room overlooked the marina and, as per previous reviewers, I would recommend paying the additional few Euros for this - although the road can be busy, the double-glazing means you can't hear it and the view is excellent.
All of the staff were very friendly - always happy to help and willing to chat.
Breakfast is standard continental fare, although I'd avoid the coffee at breakfast and buy one either from the bar or one of the local cafes!
Lagos is a lovely resort: not over-run by hordes of tourists, it still retains a lot of its charm via the maze of cobbled streets and little squares. There are a number of good restaurants and pavement cafes to suit all tastes and pockets and excellent beaches within easy walking distance.
We're certain to go back soon and will almost certainly stay at the Marina Rio.
Noisy hotel, excellent resort

Hotel was very noisy at night times, breakfast was satisfactory and pool was small. Lagos as a resort was excellent, restaurants were first class and the Bom Dia BBQ Cruise is highly recommended. Unsure if we would book this hotel again but would definatley return to Lagos.
EXCELLENT HOTEL

Just returned having spent a week at this hotel. No complaints, whatsoever staff at all times were friendly and nothing was to much trouble for them. The rooms and the hotel in general were very clean. We had a room overlooking the marina and I would suggest that for the little extra it costs, it was well worth it.
Good Value for Money

The staff at this hotel were very friendly and welcoming however we were on the 3rd floor in a room overlooking the bus station and situated quite close to the lift. There was some noise from the tannoy system used at the bus station and the lift made some very strange noises. As we only stayed 2 nights we managed with it but for a stay of any longer, I would have requested a room change. Great location for an easy 5-10 minute walk into the centre of Lagos and directly opposite the marina (not that there's an awful lot there!). The breakfast was ok, nothing special but then again for the price we paid, around £30 per night for a double room you can't have too high expectations.
Excellent well kept hotel

Excellent well kept hotel : in the quiet winter period (Feb 2005) it is a close call whether to pay a few euros more for a great Marina view but suffer some traffic noise and no sun after 10.30am or have a bus station view and sun on the balcony for most of the day. Good location for train sation as well. Nice roof top pool area. Good breakfast.
A gem of a hotel

What a little gem!
It was our first time in Portugal and this hotel was a great way to be introduced to the Algarve.
A great location, walking distance of both the beach and the mian centre.
The hotel staff were very friendly. Within the first day the staff called us respectfully by our names and were always helpful.
The breakfast was fine, the 'plunge pool' and roof terrace came in handy.
The rooms were very clean and kept so on a daily basis.
We could have done without the 'alarm call' from the local cockeral who had poor time keeping - but you can't have evrything!
A hotel we can totally recommend - good value too!
Very welcoming, reasonably priced and with a rooftop pool

We - my eight-year-old daughter and I - stayed here just one night at the end of July 2003. It was a spur of the moment decision so I booked without really checking the location; I was therefore relieved to find that it was nice and close to the bus station where we arrived from Salema up the coast. We had a very comfortable room with a balcony - and what a view of the marina! After an afternoon stroll in the old town we gave into the heat, and headed back to the hotel, where we took advantage of a wonderful rooftop pool. After getting showered and dressed for the evening, I tried to order drinks so we could enjoy a drink on the balcony but couldn't make the phone work so sent down my daughter to ask how we should order our drinks. Five minutes later she returned with the drinks - carried by a very friendly female bartender!
Breakfast was quite American/German in style rather than Portuguese but all good quality so we didn't mind. A wonderful hotel - a real holiday within a holiday!
Very good value!

We made a trip through Portugal, Spain and Italy for 4 weeks and Marina Rio was without a doubt the best hotel on our trip. Very friendly staff, nice breakfest, big airy rooms with balcony and an excellent location. Prices were very affordable. I can defintely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Lagos!

I stayed here in 2001 and loved it! The hotel was very clean and friendly! The tiled walls added such a nice european touch to our stay. The only thing that I didn't like was that you were not allowed to leave the hotel with your room key, but besides that we had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend it to anyone!
