First thing first you have to bring ear plugs with you or you will be not able to sleep the whole night. Some guest had a party till 1-2AM and housekeepers started to drive their carts at 6AM.
There was a small door in the bath and the lock on this door was broken. It was fixed by staff, but it feel on my shoulder.
We were no able to find free complimentary tea or coffee.
As for security, we lived in so called bangalow and our air-conditioner was so loud that we switched it off and just opened the patio door. The bangalow is located on ground floor and everyone was able to enter to our room.
I'm actually being kind. The positve was that the hotel was pretty and the rooms were spacious and clean. It has a nice but expensive restaurant.The pool was great. But-- we had many problems. We had originally requested a room for 3 people-two double beds(An adult and 2 kids) They gave us a room with one king size bed. No others were available. They did provide rollaway beds. The blanket on one was sticky and had to be replaced. Frequently no hot water and we had to call desk and then 15 minutes later it would get hot. We had two rooms and the toilets in both rooms backed up. We had a problem drawing the drapes because the track was broken. The elevators close on you as you're trying to get in. The air conditioner did not work well. The bathroom sink did not drain properly. I will say they tried to fix things when we called and were pleasant about the problems but I don't think I'd stay there again. Definitely not a *** hotel and now I know why.
Good value for the money
We spent three nights here the beginning of August. Had a bungalow room, rather dated, but a large, clean room with very comfortable beds. My kids loved the pool, the staff were very nice and a great location to visit all the LA tourist attractions. The free parking was an added bonus. Lots of good restaurants very close by. Would consider staying here again if in the LA area.
Arriving in Los Angeles after a long flight this hotel was great. Our room was very spacious and comfortable with a balcony which gave good views of the 4 July fireworks over the Marina. Tha staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good but expensive - we tried Eddies Diner across the road which was good value but the service was erratic and made for entertaining dining watching how different people coped with it.
If you are in LA for more than a few days the sightseeing trip may not be neccessary - we found it easy to find our way around and the $200 spent on the organised trip was a waste of money.
Good clean, basic, friendly accommodation
If you seeking luxury do not stay at this hotel. It offers clean affordable comfort and a friendly service. Free parking is an excellent bonus, and its location is great for travel to and from the key attractions.
I have been trying to book accommodation at this hotel for over a month. Their email address keeps bouncing and they only answer 1 in 4 faxes.
Web site doesn't work
I tried to book a room on their web site.
a) wouldn't accept my credit card, although it recognized it as a valid card and visa account.
b) their cancellation (and any other fine print) is nowhere to be found.
gave up and found other sites that worked.
Take a Second Look at the Marina International at Marina Del Rey
Check-In person very nice and helpful. Check-Out person was terrible.
Curt and rude to other guests. However, in general, staff very friendly. Our room: Leaks from the bathroom ceiling, carpet leading to bathroom soaked. Had to deal with towels strategically positioned to avoid getting unwantedly wet. Room, however, was clean and relatively large. Elevator was out for while. Air conditioning/heating thermastat settings/changes requires a Phd in mechanical engineering. Old hotel with single pane windows allowing for lots of traffic noise especially when positioned near the main street. There is a big clock on top of the hotel which doesn't work. I think it kind of reflects what's happening inside.

My first night abroad in 26 years was spent at the Marina International. We were met at LAX by the lovely Oliver, the driver of the hotel transport and i can honestly say that as an introduction to the United States he was the best. We wanted to do typically American things - shop, go to Venice Beach, visit a diner etc and every bit of advice he gave us was exactly right. He was so helpful that he is the reason we are returning to the Marina International in July - him and the fact that the hotel is so close to Venice Beach, Edie's Diner and Santa Monica, has a swimming pool, the food was excellent and the beds very comfortable! A very good hotel indeed - both me and my daughter loved it.
Online Reservations Were Worthless
Four days before my trip I used the Online Reservation System from their website and recieved an e-mail back with a confirmation number. Fought my way through two hours of traffic only to be told that they had never heard of me and that they use 5 digit confirmation numbers, not 6 digit numbers. Of course they were booked up, and I was given the number of the accounting department to make sure I wasn't still going to be charged for the room since I didn't cancel it in time since I had, y'know, a confirmed reservation. I only had the one night off and I ended up having to just turn around and go home. The front desk clerk was nice, but otherwise, with Quality Control like that I'm glad its just a hotel and not a hospital.
