... just say! Don't just point in any ******n direction and send people on a wild goose chase! Breathe... Luckily, it just so happened that after we had a bite to eat and set off on the search again we found the hotel! Geez! Bout time!

So we pretty much stayed the night then flew out the next morning - that part was really good! Except for when we were in ****** Iraklio airport and all the power went out. Nobody so much as batted an eyelid. Typical.

Crete, Greece markandnoma2009... deck overlooking the harbor and old Venetian walls, as well as the Mt. Idi mountains. Not shabby - we even get a couple of chaises. Of course we won't actually be spending much time lounging around the hotel because we have to see the Minoans.

We went off in search of food and found a quiet taverna - crushed fresh tomatoes and olive oil on a baked brown bread; greek tomato, feta, pepper, and olive salad; and ...
Heraklion, Crete, Greece nsadventuresWe had decided to go to Knossos on our last full day (Friday) as it is close to Iraklio where Chris and Milly will fly from on Friday night. But it made sense to take the last day in a more leisurely fashion and visit the Minoan palace of Knossos on Thursday. So we did.

After a brisk drive through the usual nightmare traffic and narrow streets, and our usual lunch, this time just across the road from the palace, we entered the grounds. The entry fee is €6 ...
Heraklion, Crete, Greece kevino101Somehow wherever I am on holiday I think about Mark. Perhaps it's because you notice couples holding hands on the beach or it's just part of the holiday romance ...
Agia Pelagia, Crete, Greece belphoebe... rather than just looking at foundation stones visible at other sites, here we could actually see reproductions of the buildings that might have risen from those foundation stones. As we looked at the architecture and the copies of the frescoes, Indy explained that the buildings were made with a wooden framework which was then filled in with limestone and finally plastered over. The wood was important because ...
Heraklion, Greece tiara316... to get us eating at there place. But thankfully they didn't - with exception of one, but you have that evrywhere, don't you? "Hello come into my restaurant. We sell nice food.. fish.. meat.." and they quote the whole menu to you while all you want to do is run away. So in our case not the best way to get us to eat there. That's sounds like rather childish behaviour of us if I read that :/

I just swollowed salt water *Yuck!* The sea was lovely though - many waves!
Agia Pelagia, Crete, Greece belphoebeIt's been hot! Walked down to Lagaria beach this morning and even at 10 am the sun was phew! We wanted to find a supermarket for some breakfast and perhaps dinner. Lagaria beach is very picturesque. The sea looked so inviting! Why oh why didn't we wear our bikinis? Thankfully found a supermarket where we bought some apricot jam, sesame rolls, Edammer cheese, cream cheese, and a blow-up ball with pretty ...
Agia Pelagia, Crete, Greece belphoebe... their the ticket man sells us the wrong tickets and we almost got the wrong bus! It was thanks to Eve's observance and a friendly Greek man that we found it out - he also helped us get the right tickets and bus.

The bus dropped us off right on the edge of a busy road in what looked like nomans land and pointed towards a road sign which said Agia Pelagia 2 km. So ...
Agia Pelagia, Crete, Greece belphoebe... the one I was most worried about: The Deep Dive. There's the PADI version of "deep," and then there was my instructor Bjorn's version. I won't give numbers, lest I get him in trouble, but let's just say it's deeper than, oh, I don't know, internationally recognized limits for safe recreational diving! But the good news is that I don't seem to be terribly affected by nitrogen narcosis, based on exercises that Bjorn gave me at the surface ...
