... teeth, lots of gold, bright pink nail varnish, has a crinkly 60 year old boyfriend in tow (boyfriend is her word not mine) and she has lots of volume with arms wailing madly at each mention of skulls or blood, (which is quite often). I mention to the daughter that I find her mum hilarious, she mentions I would not find it hilarious if it that was my mother, I agree with her. Awkward pause.
This rain and wind is just crazy ...
Cozumel, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico john.boyd.123... 8217;t check credentials and ask us to make our own way to the marina. I cross my fingers the decrepit boat will make it. After a brief and useless briefing our Divemaster (if he really is that qualified) ties his wetsuit arms around his waist (he’s far too tubby to be able to wear it properly) and off we go. Considering it’s a fairly deep dive (between 20-30metres although it varies as we are led on a very seasaw profile) they ...
Cozumel, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico twinkfranSo we leave Belize and head on a bus to Mexico, we take the express right to Cancun, stay a night or two and head down to Playa del Carmen. Our hotel is nice, cheap and basic but clean and comfortable. It has a pool which we don't use and free wifi and a huge book exchange that we do.

Playa del Carmen isn’t my favourite place, its touristy, loud, and Starbucks and Johnny Rockets are intermingled with pushy ...
Playa del Carmen, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico twinkfran... ivy hanging everywhere. It's crazy-big and we like our little hotel better!! There's no dog sleeping outside their door! We got back to Pto. Morelos after dark, so grabbed a pizza at Pizza & Love and brought it home and ate on the deck ... in the dark, because the electricity was out. Luis got it back on just as we finished. It's always something ... earlier today he'd had a huge water leak. Makes me think of Herman Wouk's Don't Stop the Carnival.
Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo, Mexico kxner... forthcoming trip to Cuba. Anyway we end up driving down the road towards the bank and picked Mike up before making the short trip to Xpu-Ha. We arrived at the sandy beach just as the sun was setting, but frustratingly we never got a chance to see it set as we had to unload the van and set up camp in our beach Palapas. Despite it's glorious surroundings we probably stumbled across our worse bathroom facilities, with it cold salty water ...
Xpuha, Mexico sd0744Wednesday we got the 7.40am bus back to Merida (early so K could get to the airport - turns out to be pointless, the saga of the ticket goes on...!). We then head straight off to Chitchen Itza, some Mayan ruins a couple of hours away. After about an hour (been sleeping, long trek between bus stops with the rucksacks between bus stations!) i realise we haven't moved in a while. Eventually we are asked to get off the bus and sit in a bus shelter on the side of a main road as the bus ...
Cancun, Mexico lizzatwellWe got up early so we could enjoy some of Playa before having to head out to Cancun. Check out wasn't until 12pm. We had breakfast at La Cafeteria Spaghetteria. It's right beside the Quinta Pasion and was always crowded. I got the Mexicana Breakfast and Chad got the Americana Breakfast. Both consisted of scrambled eggs (mine with tomatoes and onions and Chad's with bacon) and a cappuccino. Chad's included toast with jam and Nutella and mine had ...
Cancun, Mexico jaclynandchad... on the beach with Em, Anna and Gary, listening to a Krafty Kuts mix and reading The Motorcycle Diaries. This is what holidaying is about :-)

I had dinner with Em and Anna again the next night, and we had a few beers, but there was no repeat of the previous night. I had a big travel day ahead of me, involving a few bus rides and a water taxi out to Caye Caulker in Belize.
