Day 21 - Cancun 2nd day

... bottle is placed on a towel and with a stick that has string and a plastic loop at the end, you have to stand the bottle upright. Hel & Mel both made it through to the Grand Final with relative ease. It was then based on how long to lift it up - Both Mel & Hel did it in 5 seconds to elimiate the 3rd & 4th persons in the final, then Hel did it in an amazing 2 seconds with the Staff yelling World Record !!!! Well, you probably ...

Playin in the Caribbean

The next day I caught a bus from Cancun to Playa Del Carmen which is a resort town that has sprung up in the last 15 years to cater to the tourists that travel to the island of Cozumel. There is apparently some fantastic diving along the reefs around Cozumel, but for $70 USD for 2 dives (not including equipment) I thought I'd give it a miss.

Still I had a ...

... side of the pyramid into the underworld. It is also one of the largest sites of Mayan ruins because it was in it's heyday the central and largest Mayan city. Halfway during the tour the heavens opened and stormed us out of the ruins. In the meantime another bus with working air conditioning had arrived to take us home, but now we were all so wet and cold we didn't need it. That night I went out with two French guys who were also staying at the hostel and we enjoyed many Tequila's ...

Day Three

... ivy hanging everywhere. It's crazy-big and we like our little hotel better!! There's no dog sleeping outside their door! We got back to Pto. Morelos after dark, so grabbed a pizza at Pizza & Love and brought it home and ate on the deck ... in the dark, because the electricity was out. Luis got it back on just as we finished. It's always something ... earlier today he'd had a huge water leak. Makes me think of Herman Wouk's Don't Stop the Carnival.

XCARET

Today we went to the bus to XCARET. The bus was 15min late and it was hot so we were wondering where it was. As soon as we got to XCARET we went into the underground rivers. It was fun. We didn't see to many fish in there though. There were a ...

Day 20-21 Xpu-Ha and Tulum

... forthcoming trip to Cuba. Anyway we end up driving down the road towards the bank and picked Mike up before making the short trip to Xpu-Ha. We arrived at the sandy beach just as the sun was setting, but frustratingly we never got a chance to see it set as we had to unload the van and set up camp in our beach Palapas. Despite it's glorious surroundings we probably stumbled across our worse bathroom facilities, with it cold salty water ...

More of Mexico

... 2 local Mayan villages (Zihacantan and Chamula). In the first village we visited a family home wher the women made a living making wavings and the men worked in the fields. Some of the weavings were fantastic but I managed to control myself and only bought 2 small weavings (i would not have been able to carry anything bigger!). In the second village we visited a church where live chickens are taken and sacraficed on a regular basis ...

Mexico Part II

... really painful in the sun.) This is my third day in Peru and first experience of South America has been so far so good. The altitude has been a bit of a pain as all of a sudden I feel incredibly unfit. My hostel is on the top of a hill with an amazing view over Cusco but climbing up to it is challenging to say the least. Don´t know how I´m going to cope on the Inca trail over the next few days but the coca leaves should do the trick. This has to be the most hard sale ...
