Leaving Lisbon this morning we drove north with our first stop in Obidos, a small medieval fortified town with cobblestone streets. The Romans and Moors had settlements here until Portugal's first king wrested it from the latter in 1148. Known as the "Wedding Present Town," Obidos formed part of King Denis' dowry to his queen, Isabel, on their wedding day in 1282. Kings continued the tradition of presenting this charming town as a ...

Day 4 - Azambuja to Santarem. 15.8 miles I will not kid you, today was challenging. Not just the mileage, however that was also a challenge as well. But due to harvest machinery we were advised to walk the highway N3 the entire way. Our senses were assaulted again by the fragrant sweet broom ...

... The town has a wonderful very long (and steep) shopping strip which is very focussed on two industries wedding and funerals. Shop after shop with wedding dresses...then lots of headstones / wreaths.....a bit odd.

The walk back was tough, when we walked past a parked funicular we knew must be near the top of the hill. A few mis-steps courtesy of a wrongly placed google direction and we were back at our lodgings

... to cry. I was scared that nothing could ever top the feeling of exploring and traveling the world. When I got back to Bebington Rob had a quarter life crisis and decided I wasn't "the one" and he broke up with me. I booked a plane to get out of England, left two days later and I've been wandering around since. Right now I'm standing behind a bar (yes, I am bartending!!) talking to my two new Finnish friends Karolina and Aleksi, and my Brasilian girlfriend, Giovanna. Milky Chance ...
